The area
Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Johnny Jordaanplein is a public square (actually more like a long rectangle) in the centre of the tree lined avenue of Elandsgracht. It's more like a local park with paved area, grass and playground, than a traditional European public square, although there are plenty of cafes and restaurants on either side of Elandsgracht. At the eastern end of the square is a set of 5 sculptures of singers of the sentimental, misty-eyed Levenslied genre of pop music.
It's okay, probably more for fans of this genre.

I liked coffeeshop Johnny alot, I went every morning to get a takeaway. The shop is really small so not a place to chill but a great place to buy good quality at very reasonable prices. All hash is imported and very good, I highly recommend (literately) the Moroccan Ice its 20 euros a gram but its the business. To give an idea how cheap it is the most expensive bud on the menu was Super silver haze for 11 euros a gram. It's more of a local place than one for tourists but the staff were extremely helpful and friendly the female bud tender twice complimented my fiancée on her dresses. All in all if you don't want to get ripped off go to this place. Coffeeshop La tertula (I may have spelt that wrong) around the corner on Prinsengracht is a nice place to sit get a drink and chill by the canal.

We were walking along the side of one of the many canals in Amsterdam when we came across this group of sculptures. We had never heard of Johnny Jordaan so I took a photo to remind us to look him up on Wikipedia when we got home. We have done so. This is often a useful way to add to the knowledge of what you unexpectedly come across when on holiday.

We, 4 Singapore ladies stayed in an old dutch house near Johnny Jordaan Plein during our holiday in April 2014.
Walking to this area became our daily activity. There is a nostalgic charm to this area, and what dutch people say " Gezellig" feeling. You will find many nice eateries, shops and Albert Hejn in this area. The people are warm and friendly.
A very relaxing place to relax & unwind!

You'll find a small collection of statues at Johnny Jordaan Plein at the Prinsengracht and Elandsgracht intersection, just near the children's play area.
These five bronzes commemorate 20th-century Dutch musicians Manke Neilis (far left), Tante Leen (left-centre), Johnny Jordaan (center), Johny Meyer (right-centre) as well as couple Mien and Jan Froger (far right).
Probably most interesting to Dutch travellers and other familiar with these musicians. For others, unfortunately, no plaques or information relate to the statues so you'll need to look them up online before or after your visit if you want to know more about these individuals. Still worth a quick look-see when passing through the area.

These are a nice set of statues with a musical theme that we chanced upon as we were bimbling around this part of town.
We had been walking around the area near Prinsengracht Canal and we took a few photos of this interesting arrangement, located in a cool little park with bench seating.
Johnny Jordaanplein is easy to locate on the corner of Prinsengracht and Elandsgracht.
Well worth a quick visit.

Walking around the Jordan enjoying the sights and atmosphere we came across this pretty square, just by the houseboat museum, with a small playground and very good ice cream shop, Ijscuypje, around the corner. Kids enjoyed a play and we enjoyed a rest. Also a good supermarket on the square if you fancied a picnic.

The little Johnny Jordaan park was recently renovated and now sports a comfy bench for resting in the shade of trees, in front of which are positioned iconic characters of the Jordaan music scene, amongst which most prominently Johnny Jordaan. Lovely picturesque spot to take a load off and chill, handily located next to the popular Eland Cafe.
