A great one for father & son !

Simply delighted at being shown around by a wonderful dutch gentleman. He started lots engines for us, we talked and chatted for an extremely enjoyable couple of hours.

We were in the Aj brewery looking for nearby attractions and saw references to this museum. We walked there, but in fact it is open only on Tuesdays from 10.00 until 15.00. We arrived on a Tuesday, but at 16.00. However, when we rang the bell, a very nice man allowed us a look round. If you are an industrial... More

The usual predominately retired old men showing you around lovingly restored and maintained engines. Their passion and knowledge of the subject makes a tour a fantastic experience for engine enthusiasts. The real value is that they have engines from steam to diesel and you can actually see the evolution of the engines over about 100 hundred years starting with double... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
