I visited Amsterdam recently with my friend and we payed a visit to the Queens Head. The bartender was lovely, I bought 2 massive beers and he gave us 2 tequilas too ... which is always a bonus. He advised me to check out their smoking room because apparently it was the best in the city ...., I can tell... More

Went with a friend and ordered a beer there, nice place, peaceful for having a good talk and listening to gay anthems, beautiful view of the canals. Lots of locals, not so much tourists. If you are around the area, it's a good option for relaxing.

This is a gay pub with clean drinks and nice service that definitely worths a visit. The view is so beautiful, calm and characteristic for Amsterdam, with all the wonky houses and the canal. I would go there any time of the day or night and you must visit the recently refurbished smoking room which is on a lower level... More

It was a great pleasure to go to this little place. First night we got here to have a beer, as we didn't want to have the normal Haineken. Here we saw they are serving Grolsh, that's why we entered. But after seeing the great night we went back the second time. It was a tuesday, when it was bingo... More

Bar in the old "english" style (or in dutch "bruine kroeg"). In the pub a friendly and relaxed atmosphere! Not only tourists, but also a lot of locals.

Took some friends here when on a stag weekend and had a fantastic time. The bar staff and customers were very friendly and the drinks were reasonably priced. The atmosphere was just fantastic. One of the best gay bars I have been to in a long time and was great to take friends here.

We stopped in for a beer or six late afternoon on a Sunday. Bar staff were friendly and welcoming. It appeared there were a number of locals there, but the pub was not busy at all. It's interesting that there is a sort of secret sitting area downstairs that you'll only see after you walk through the doors of the... More

Friendly and welcoming bar any time of the day !! Visiting from the UK and found this bar slightly off the beaten track but facing the canal. Friendly day time and night service, DJ in the evening and quieter in the day !! Fantastic bar !!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
