This area in the oldest part of Amsterdam is known for the red neon windows that display barely-dressed prostitutes advertising their services; it's all perfectly acceptable as long as it stays inside this designated area of the city.

This is a must do in Amsterdam, but it really isn't the Amsterdam you need to see. Sort of like going to NYC in the 70's to Times Square, but missing the rest of New York. Walk around on a weekend night, but no need...More

Interesting place full of live, coffee shops (I can't recommend any, cos I didn't go in), pubs (The Queen's head and Our Corner were outstanding!) and lots of places to eat. If you want to feel the deep Amsterdam, you can't miss this place!

We hired a private guide to take us through the Red Light District while visiting Amsterdam. We enjoyed hearing about the history and seeing the beautiful architecture. We were quite shocked however at the window displays of scantily clad prostitutes seeking to attract the next...More

This was a very helpful and educating tour. Money worth spent. Chantal Moreno, our tour guide, was fantastic. She was able to clearly explain things that we normally do not talk about.

It is sad to see the pure exploitation of woman in this area but it is an awesome area of the city. I like just sitting by the canals and watching the world go by.

Visited in May around 10pm on a Saturday night to see what everyone talks about. Area was rammed, shoulder to shoulder with thousands of people lining the streets. If you’re here on a stag or hen do then this would the be the place to...More

We had to traverse the area to get to where we wanted to be and the whole place feels dirty and cheap. Amsterdam is a jewel of a city and it doesn’t need this. It attracts the worst in society and sensationalises it. Those who...More

You have to take this area with a pinch of salt and realise this is their reality. They’re not here as a tourist attraction.

Daily is interesting but very dirty and in the night what to say, lot of drunk mans and girls?!?! Screaming and laughing! That place is “history heritage” on one way but for me better avoid!

You definitely have to go there. It is part of every sightseeing tour anyways. It’s one of the most vibrant parts of the city’s at night. So do not worry and have fun ;)

There's a lot to do in Amsterdam and a lot of beautiful things to see so avoid red light there's really no point and have a walk between the canals all around the town.
