It was interesting to walk thru and see, probable more interesting to 20-50 year olds. There are so many people walking around , lots of young men, lots of little bars and eateries..

Expect significant crowds. Expect lots of cheap chippies and bakeries. Expect dubious boozers. Expect a whole variety of ladies of the night, 9pm onwards is when things get going properly.

Everybody talks about this quarter, but it is nothing but a normal neighbourhood you can find in any European big city. Of course here you find a few windows with a girl inside, but it is not as shocking as it could seem. Overall a...More

I would say it is a must to visit the red light district since it is not something you find easily. We did not mean to participate in any way at those concepts but it was a cultural experience that we will never forget. It...More

Wow, just wow. An experience that I will never forget. People in windows trying to get your attention, the open advertising of sex, some random shops dotted around, a must see for everyone except kids.

Heaving with people at night, definitely a bucket list must see! Not as seedy as you would expect, a fun atmosphere.

Visited on the recommendation of friends. It was very interesting to see how it operated. We were a couple over 60 walking alone and felt very safe. We visited just before sunset and there was plenty happening at that time. Sone good eating places along...More

Walking through the red light district is pretty bland through the day time. But to see it in all its glory, you're definitely better going at night when the windows are all lit up. It's mostly filled with people just going to 'have a look'...More

In the day time it is a tourist attraction - Lot of restaurants and people walking around - Interesting that it is located next to a church and is in close proximity to the City Hall and Palace

Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention
Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist
temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some

Is it worth a visit to the RLD on a sunday evening/night? I'm sure it would be best to visit either friday or saturday, but we have a pretty packed schedule. TIA

Fridays and Saturdays the district is packed, it gets a tiny bit quieter on Sundays, even in high season, so it would definitely make sense. Besides, following the pack, touring the neighborhood caravan-style up and down the... More

Yes, but it is a rule being aware ;) I went there alone, as the weather was not so good, I could not see so many people. It is quite interesting being there at night.
