Impressive collection of the artist's work showing how his work developed. However it was very crowded and lacked the bright colours I've seen on online pictures and prints. Must be a great experience for dedicated fans. For more casual visitors, the Stedelijk next door offers a more varied and exciting selection of modern art with fewer queues.

We visited this attraction as my wife as always been a fan of Van Gogh's artwork, as my wife uses a wheelchair we didn't need to prebook our tickets, the cost was €17 for the 2 of us as they offer a concession for disabled visitors, we both enjoyed our visit and very impressed with how accessible the museum is,... Impressive art and some well known paintings but a fairly steep admission price at 17€ when you would struggle to spend more than an hour in here. Same price as rijksmuseum which is huge Well kept though

This is another 'must visit' place when in Amsterdam. Friday hours are extended until 10 pm so it is great for people who want to use the daytime for other sightseeing activities.

Well done! My 7 and 9 year olds wanted to stay another hour and a half after our tour! Chronologically laid out by floor, so interesting to learn Van Gogh's story.

This was a fantastic experience and we used one of the guides who was so informative, friendly and knowledgable, but made it interesting. This was not at all stuffy and for a non Artie like me I was really impressed.

During winter season, best way scenario is to visit a museum - and Van Gogh was am excellent choice. Well organises on 3 floors, describing the entire life of the artist and his evolution in art. After the visit you will definitely recognize Van Gogh's style - touch of the brush. FYI - the pictures in the gallery are forbiden... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
