Happened upon this place while wandering around Amsterdam on a November night. The interior is charming and authentic. The patrons that night were all locals. Upstairs there is small section where they were smoking and watching football - I wouldn't recommend sitting here. We got a lovely table downstairs and spent a few hours chatting and drinking reasonably priced beers.... More

My wife and I visited three times during our stay in Amsterdam. It wasn't far from where we were staying and great old Brown Bar. The ambience is lovely. We didn't try any food but the beer was great and my wife had the Genver. On our first visit the bartender chastised me for using my credit card after I... More

Cafe Papeneiland is the main subject of the most picturesque view in Amsterdam. It is also a perfect example of a Dutch brown cafe. The interior is very atmospheric. I stopped by around 11:00 with my wife and my 2 year old son. We had coffee and apple pie. The pie was very good and the staff was very friendly... More

Tiny little place but go and have a slice of two-inch thick pie filled with well-spiced apples and a pleasant crust. Not like any apple pie/cake have ever had...4€ for a nice sized slice suitable for breakfast, snack or anytime. Very pleasant staff and all locals when we stopped in...including a sleeping dog! The interior is a step back in... More

This authentic dutch pub is a good place to have drink or two. This pub is really old and they didn't change much over the years which gives it a pleasant athmosphere.

This is down to personal taste but I was personally disappointed by the apple pie there. The pie was a bit too sour for my liking.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
