Start at the end of the Nieuwedijk, cross the bridge and fall into the Haarlemmerstraat / Haarlemmerdijk. You will find a lovely shopping street not (yet) "blurred" by the big name store chains, but many lovely little specialty shops and cosy cafe's and coffee places....More

We went down this street to visit the Marqt. Quite a busy little street. Lots of "coffee shops" but also lots of other tourist shops and restaurants.

Convenient to Central Station but filled with many independent stores selling all manner of things. Some excellent shoe stores, women's clothing stores, bakeries, and coffee shops, supermarket, ATM machines - there is something for everyone. A little more authentic than the tourist areas.

Amsterdam you're looking for while roaming around the
