Lots of selection of books to read on a cold day. Nice amount of seats to sit in while reading also.

Big and comfortable. It has a restaurant area in the last floor with very good meals! Good place to study!

What a lovely place to get away from the tourists. The balcony was closed but there were enough chairs along the floors facing the canal where anyone can sit and enjoy a book with one of the most amazing views of the city. Must go for architecture lovers as well!

The Central Library is a short walk from the Train Station and is a 'don't miss' destination. The building is multi-storied, modern, clean and very inviting even if your knowledge of Dutch is limited. Don't miss the exposition area and also spend time on the top floor for lunch or a nice snack. The food is served cafeteria style an... More

This big building near the water is the biggest library in Amsterdam. My friend and I always meet here because she rents books and I like to have coffee here. On the 6th floor is a great view over the city. Perfect for a selfie with view.

This library offers fee-based wifi in the library, but you can also go to the cafe on the 7th floor and get free wifi. The cafe is very good and reasonably priced and the view over the old center of Amsterdam is wonderful. The lower floors also offer views and some very comfortable places to work or take a breather... More

Visited on a very wet afternoon. Lovely building, with fabulous facilities. Lovely to see it so well used. We had a late lunch on the seventh floor at the Place restaurant. Exceptionally good food at reasonable prices. It's next to the Theatre so ideal for a meal or drink before a performance. Great views of Amsterdam, there is a terrace... More

This library is very nicely designed, welcoming, clean and fresh! I am a librarian so I like to see other libraries wherever I am.

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
