The area
Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Stayed at the Marriott hotel next to the river for five nights prior to getting on a cruise boat to Budapest, an absolute enlightening city with a lot history culture and plenty to do, we did several bus trips to see villages and the Dam wall, the peaple of the Netherlands are friendly and their cullture look after themselves children and single mothers would definitely return. Just watch out for the cyclist as the city is full of them and they have right of way.

Docklands

Has a stroll past here but there wasn't really much for us. It's like the Docklands in London. There is the Hilton at one end, but what i thought was pretty cool was the big floating Chinese restaurant there. reminds me of Hong Kong

Oosterdokeiland
Jul. 2019
Oosterdokeiland ( Eastern Dock Island) is an artificial island at the east of Amsterdam Central Station. The island was created in 1832. The buildings are quite modern. The Amsterdam Concervatory and Amsterdam (main) Public Library are on this island. There are shops, hotel, starbucks, restaurants, TomTom headquarter, residential complexes and other offices. It is always crowded. If your hotel is not in this area, don't waste your time visiting this place.

Busy transportation hub in Centrum
Apr. 2019 • Couples
The revamped Oosterdok near the Centraal Station was still under construction during our latest visit there by April. This transportaion hub would link up with the museums and waterfront facilities including shops, hotels and cinemas not to mention being a nice photo-taking spot for visitors.

Lively docks
Sep. 2018 • Solo
The Oosterdok has been revamped over the years, still under construction, when completed will allow touring all the way around, as well as up over the bridge to the Marine Terrein and islands. There is also a bridge linking "ODE" to Nemo and the IJ Tunnel emplacement. Cool waterfront, featuring many hip food and drink places as well as a supermarket and library. Lots of photogenic spots. Nice walk.
