Vondelkerk (Vondel Church) is a late 19th century church with a Gothic Revival exterior designed by famous Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers, located just to the north of Vondelpark at Vondelstraat.
What is interesting about this church beyond its attractive exterior is that it was repurposed as a business centre in 1977 and has been used by small businesses and as a venue for private functions since that time.
If you make way to the front of the church, you'll see a glass entrance with business being conducted. Enjoy the rest of the exterior of Vondelkerk for a few minutes before or after your visit to Vondelpark.

We came across this unusual building by chance while wandering the city streets. We did not seek it out and was not open to the public at the time of our visit. Built in the late 19th century in Gothic Revival style it is an attractive building, but whilst it was intended to be a church, and served as such for many decades, it obviously became uneconomical after a while! Since 1977 it has been used as a kind of Business Centre. Worth to stop by for a few minutes and take a snap. Apart from that there is really no need to go out of your way.

It was raining was we approached Vondelpark and we saw the Vondelkerk and decided to enter and avoid the rain. When we entered we discovered a beautiful church. Then we learned that this church along with nine other churches are no longer active churches but offer the sites for weddings and activities. The Vondelkerk is very interesting to see and the staff are very friendly and helpful. If you are interested in the preservation activities or using the facilities check online.

The building is placed in the park and it is nice to see. But it is not really special. Not recommended

Interesting design, sort of round in a circular street. All red brick. Lovely park neighborhood and setting. Classy area.

There's been no services in this church since 1977 and to avoid that this church would be demolished, "Vondelkerk foundation" gave this church a new life. After the renovation, in 1981 it's been used for offices, activities such as workshop, lecture, cultural festivities, concert and also wedding location. It's a beautiful France Gothic architecture.

There are still services held at this church, on sundays at noon I believe, it is also open for visits every first wednesday of the month from 12 to 16 as well as on every third sunday from 13 to 16. Unfortunately I was at the church outside opening hours, but was still able to admire the church's neogothic exterior. Pretty building, very picturesque. Great photo opp.

The famous 19TH Century Architect P.J.H.Cuypers designed the Vondelkerk to be build in the street "Vondelstraat" were the architect lived.
Cuypers more famous creations include Rijksmuseum and Centraal Station Amsterdam
Less well known designs by Cuypers are Basiliek Oudenbosch and Kasteel de Haar Utrecht.
Between 1880-1977 Vondelkerk was a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the"Allerheiligst Hart van Jezus".
Stadsherstel renovated the former church and the church is devided up in several offices and spaces for receptions.
