A gnome has gained a foothold. Right in the middle of Amsterdam's Magic Center, on the Spui, right behind the Lieverdje. This Gnome statue represents a revival of the Kabouter (Dutch for Gnome) Movement, which never disbanded. The kabouters where a green-anarchist group in Amsterdam in the 1970s. Unlike the Provo movement, which disbanded itself in 1967, they simply went underground for 50 years.

The Amsterdams Lieverdje is a sculpture of a stereotypical view of an Amsterdam boy as the mischievous, but kind hearted little darling.

The sculpture depicts a boy of 10, dressed in a short sleeved shirt, shorts and wearing a cap on his head. He has a mischievous little grin on his face as if having just played a prank.

It's a cute little statue, but I wouldn't go out of the way to see it. As it's located on Spui, and within the main tourist circuit, it's worth a small detour if you've got time or if visiting Amsterdam with children.

We stumbled across a rather nice piece of work while wandering the city streets. The Statue "Amsterdam's Lieverdje" is a beautiful symbolic gesture to at least some, select few of Amsterdam's boys, particularly those in the streets.... It is a representation of a cheeky looking young fellow. It is rather likeable! It was placed there in 1959 as a gypsum statue for a street festival for that year. However people liked so much that thanks to a cigarette company (strangely!) it was remade in copper in 1960. And here it still stands! Worth a look. There are many cafes, restaurants and other shops in the surrounding area as well.

An interesting sculpture to see at Spui is Lieverdje (Little Darling). The statue is also referred to as Amsterdams Lieverdje an is a bronze depiction of a smiling young boy in cap, with arms on his hips. The figure is atop a simple but roughly surfaced pedestal and is situated just across from the historic Caffe Hoppe.

Symbolically, the Lieverdje monument is supposed to represent the youth of Amsterdam, always playing tricks and pranks yet still with a golden heart. Its worth a quick look-see and a picture or two when passing through Spui.

The statue symbolized a street boy of Amsterdam that always did the boyish prank but he has a golden heart. It's based on a story in a daily paper about a boy who saved a dog that was fallen in the canal. The location is on a busy square, spui.

On the smaller side of Spui, this bronze (?), statue of a young boy stands larger than life size on a stone block and generally ignored by most passer-by. its a good photo opportunity.

This “Darling Little Boy” stands in a little park, but a Café has sprung up around him. We figured since we were there, we might as well have drink.

Had there been nothing more in our renunciation than this? There had been something more to sell. At least we thought so.. But who could tell? There was only one bit of evidence left against us. Auto depiction itself, any selfie was evidence fortold. We would destroy it all.

I wouldn’t make a purpose of going to see this, but we walked past and thought it was cute. I can understand the meaning behind it and at least it is not strange modern art which I cannot connect with.
