Lots of life here. Cool place to hang out and just experience the city and people in it (mostly tourists here though). Very close to high end shopping and lots of restaurants and cafes. If you walk a couple blocks over opposite of the shopping you run into a cute farmers market and some more local neighborhoods.

Couldn't believe I'd chosen so well - last time I was here I stayed near to the train station and I went away with a very average opinion of Amsterdam. This time was different. So much to do when you are here which means that I will have to go back to soak up more of the culture and all... More

We stayed in the Apollo Museum hotel right next to the Rijksmuseum...could not have a better location. the whole are is beautiful and very picturesque. the weather was great so perfect for picnic and the area behind the Rijksmuseum ideal for this. Plenty of seating areas and little ice cream kiosks. Perfect!

What an awesome place, lots of green grass and close to restaurants. Best to buy your tickets before if you get the chance.

Beautiful area, large open space, easy access by tram and bus. Lots to look at here, quite a few different museums and places to eat. If you go to Van Gogh or Rikjs then you've made it here, take the time to walk around and just look.

If you like museums - three all in close proximity. Really great art and different. Old master Rembrandt, Van Gogh and more modern on ZmZoCO. They have Banksy and Dali on the MOCO currently. A real pleasure to see these different styles. Enjoyed this area enormously.

If you love art you will live this! But he warned: long queues everywhere no matter the time of year by advance tickets and skip those queues!

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
