A Begijnhof was a group of small houses near a church and around a garden where the elderly poor ladies could live in the middle ages. The Begijnhof in Breda is very well preserved and gives a good impression of what this looked like. As...More

When you are in Breda, this is a must-see. Very cute and small community. All is in balance: houses, art, antiques, flowers and church. A quiet place to dream and just stroll along for a bit

Estonishing beauties and background on the town’s history are displayed in a compact area. It is right in the City centre at the historic Catharina street. The Begijnhof offers a relaxing feeling of a garden in the middle of the historic town.

It is a very historical and cosy place, sometimes in summer they offer local honey and wine to taste.

As part of the self-guided walking tour that the tourist office has created we learnt about the beguines and visited the beguinage. It is a wonderfully serene place that is still in use today. Well worth a quick visit.

Well preserved and interesting with the museum that lies within its precincts. No longer occupied by lay religious women but still an area of private silence, occupied by single women.

Hidden away in the middle of the city lies this historic place. It is very impressive to be in a place which hasn't changed much over its hunderds of years of history

A peaceful garden surrounded bi old brick buildings, with an elegant chapel. On the edge of the historical centre.

This Begijnhof is a beautiful quiet piece of the city. Small houses around the courtyard and little plots of gardening for the people that live there. Go check it out, but be quiet, because people actually live here.
