A modest church with a striking external facade. The interior is very nice but, in my opinion, a little modest compared to other churches I’ve visited lately in other Belgian cities. If U can climb a considerable number of stairs (more then 200) don’t miss...More

The view from the top of the stairs is phenomenal. The stairs are fairly step and very narrow (especially if there are people going up and down at the same time). Well worth the trek though!!

You should definitely visit this church. From the outside it is amazing to see this building, it’s color and architecture is are amazing. You can also go to the top of the church, this is something I’d recommend as well. The view is you get...More

The top of the tower offered a charming view of Maastricht, from where I could designate other landmarks I still wanted to visit. Also, just being in such an old space like that really lets your imagination fly. I hope I have occasion to revisit...More

In centuries past churches and statuary were often painted and Sint Janskerk is a striking throwback to that time. Apparently in centuries past it was painted both yellow and white but it's been red for a century or more and was repainted in the current...More

You will recognise the church when you see the red tower, situated in the city center. Inside there is really not much to see, but it is worth climbing the stairs to have an overview over the city, that is if the weather is good.

Yet another pretty church in a city that seems full of them. We weren't able to look inside because a service was going on at the time but the external façade is striking.

Walk the interior windy stairs to the gallery 2/3 up and continue to the outside at the top for a great photo op. Enjoy the bell tower.

This beautiful red church is located at the Vrijthof and is an ancient monument from the 16th century. Although the address is officially Vrijthof 24, the entrance is at the Henric van Veldekeplein. If you are not afraid to climb a steep stairway you can...More
