I was too late to still be able to enter, but the outside is well worth the short detour. It is an old city gate, with all its splendour and strength. Nearby there are also several parts of the city walls, different ones build at...More

This place is very photogenic and is great to start your city walk. It is next to a nice bridge the 'Hoge brug' and the surrouding old city walls.

at the Helpoort, you can dwell into the history of Maastricht (13th Century!) and vividly imagine the past. a good point to go and see the three stages of Maastrichts old wall fortification in one go.

The walk on the wall (including this gate) was very peaceful. It is not grand, but the integration with living houses, the University, and streets made it very functional. Enjoyed it!

Very well preserved city gate from the city's fortifications. Impressive building, with some of the city wall still attached. Visit here then have a nice stroll in the park.

A very impressive building within the old walls. You can go up inside the tower (very steep steps) to read about the history, although I couldn't find any info in English. Although its an impressive building its a five minute trip, good for photos.

During the winter period Helpoort is closed. Going upstairs in the tower is with small children is not recommended. I'm sorry !
