Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My son took us here so we could spend time learning about the history of Groningen.
It was a pleasant couple of hours and it was free to peruse the main museum. There was a Rolling Stones exhibition on and that required payment, but we were happy looking at the art work.
All artists were from Groningen or the subjects in the paintings were from the city.
It was a well kept and organised museum and we particularly loved the paintings and history.
It was strange to walk down some of the corridors that were below water level and as you looked out of the windows you could see the canal!
Nice way to spend a peaceful hour of art and culture.

What a find in Groningen (Art) Museum. Their temporary exhibition on ‘Colour’ was well curated and imaginative. And housed in Alessandro Mendini’s amazing post modern exhibition space extending below the water line. First time I’ve come across the early 20th C artistic collective called De Ploeg based in Groningen - loved their work. Spent a well worth couple of hours loitering there.

Very interesting , the building itself is worth visiting apart from the exhibitions , it's quite distinctive and very central . Each time I have been there the exhibitions are terrific. The lobby and stairway has a spectacular glass installation there permanently . Nice cafe for a cup of coffee . Downstairs , under water there are children's activities . Well worth a few hours visit.

A strange mix of exhibition's... Lots of information on the area. Easy to follow everything in Dutch, English and German.

A unusual exhibition that you can walk through. Also a don't look down!! ( glass you can walk over) that has about a thirty foot drop over the water.

The building itself is set half in the water. So has some unique architecture.

If you are lucky the bridge outside will go up and you can get a glimpse of some very interesting artwork underneath it.

It's a interesting place to kill a couple of hours.

Museum is delightful piece of architecture. Part of museum was closed off as “ under Rolling Stones exhibition construction”. Remainder of museum exhibition we found to be more of few collections dug from storage and just displayed. No structure or whatsoever - apart maybe some “ self pity as its collections maybe not so great” like other museums ( in Randstad). Enough variety though to find/see some interesting stuff.

Always enjoy visiting the Groningen Museum and was lucky to visit the amazing “Unzipped” exhibit of the Rolling Stones. A look into the private life of one of the worlds biggest rock bands.

The Museum also has a great section of Dutch female painters and an exhibit with art through the ages. The location is amazing and fairly priced for what you get.

We had fun in a museum! There was the kids biënnale, which was even fun for adults, and the museum celebrated its 150th year so that was lovely to see (Happy Birthday btw)
The museum offered a very eclectic collection from portret paintings from the sixteenth, seventeenth century but also modern art, avantgarde art… you name it.
It’s a great museum to have a fun day with the kids at the moment due to the kids biënnale.
It’s not a huge museum with an enormous collection, so perfect to add it to your day.

Traveled to Groningen especially for the Rolling Stone exhibition. Museum near station. Museum annual card valid, but pay an extra euro 10 for the RS exhibition. Good progression from young boys to older men. Lots to see in terms of instruments, clothing, studio, etc. Nice ending with recordings of a Cuba concert.
Logical structure with cascading rooms over three floors.

We are not that much of art lovers. Still we enjoyed our visit to the museum. A lot of different things to see with enough explanation ( but not too much). Especially the second floor with the picture exposition was very nice. We liked the interpretation of children with some of the pictures a lot. Next visit will be with our children. Also for them a lot to see.
Don’t forget to order your tickets online as there are time slots.
