Great view, menu is okay, the only real gripe is that the menus on the tables are really basic and the day menu is on a chalkboard near the kitchen. So, if you want to know the whole menu, you have to look at the board as the waiters don't seem.to know it. Everyone is very jolly in the restaurant, the average age of the customers was 60 when we were there which was a bit weird.

Lovely museum, just the right size, great exhibits and English exhibit guide

A nice Museum and an interesting history. A varied collection and two special exhibits when we were there - an excellent exhibit of Arnhem pottery and great story about a local retired surgeon who started collecting it. Another about one of museum's past curators who hosted a Dutch TV art show (similar to antiques roadshow). Their collection of photos, paintings and sculptures were varied and interesting.

Not sure what to think about the negative reviews, but if your hyper sensitive just ask the staff whats showing and I'm sure they'll tell you. They had really wonderful (and free) English handouts of the exhibits. Cafe and sculpture garden also nice. Definitely worth 2 hours of your time and the 10 euro entrance fee. (as is the Open Air Museum a short bus ride away)

Wonderful preformance!

Got a chance to see a wonderful interactive performative art piece, performed by the students of the nearby artschool ArtEZ.
It is so great to see museums involve young artist in the making in such important exhibitions!

Dancers, Theater and Fine Arts alike joined forces to create a revolving door that makes you realise the importance of the space you take in on a location.

Prachtig gelegen museum

A small but wonderful modern art museum located on the moraine overlooking the Lower Rhine. In a newly built wing, the museum cafe located (small dishes for lunch and breakfast) with a view on the Rhine. Lovely sculpture park around. Across the museum is the ethnographic art gallery de Buytensael located: full with modern and traditional art from different African countries.

Coming from the other side of the world to view history from the battle in that city, we were not told about the fact it had no battle of Arnhem history in it at all, until after we'd paid our 10 euros entry.
It had some traditional artwork which was pleasant enough, however the main feature seemed to be pro-homosexual artwork on clothing etc.that looked like it was made by warped primary school kids. I would not have liked my teenage kids to see such crap, yet there was school groups visiting.
basically we were ripped off.

Exhibition was moved for a child's party
Apr. 2016 • Business
This is a great museum, however We went there expecting a performance from young artist from the ArtEZ but instead found that they have given priority to a children's party.
They rudely locked the door and decided to extend their stay in the auditorium past the so called hour they've agreed on. Security was rude but became more polite once one of the artist called the museum director.
Eventualy the security let the artist in to clean up their exhibition without doing the performance.

Since when is the contemporary the remains of birthday party instead of an artisan painting?

Fascinating museum, building and location
Feb. 2016 • Couples
Mainly 20th century art, well displayed. Interesting Delft collection as well as pictures from their own collection and changing expos. A sculpture garden overlooking a vast bend in the fast flowing river. A fascinating building in itself, in a remarkable hilltop location with a spectacular view over the river - especially good from the tea room. NOT a museum directly about Arnhem. A 10-minute walk or trolleybus ride up the hill from the station, or you can walk up a steep path from the riverside road.
