About
The main library of both the city and the University of Zürich, the Central Library is a popular destination for students and general readers, and somewhat of a meeting place. Nice architecture with a section of English-speaking books on the bottom floor.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In a very beginning, I walked to this building and though it was a church. In the end I found I was wrong, it is a library for the civic. It's great for the people to study in a very special and historical building.

My husband & I had already had a good walk around the old part of Zurich and were looking for somewhere to read our kindles for a couple of hours before catching a train. The central library was the perfect place - large, spacious, with comfortable armchairs in a central reading section. No bags or coats are allowed, but there are lockers one floor below, requiring a 2 franc coin to operate (which you get back on return of the key). The library was extremely quiet despite being well patronised. Most of the floorspace was devoted to office-like workstations, and there were also numerous computers on benches.

The main central library is located in the Niederdorf area and popular with many of the local students. There are storage lockers inside as bags are not allowed in the main library. Clean restrooms, a café, vending machines and common lobby seating areas where one can take a break. They also offer free Wi-Fi for visitors.

Where to find the prettiest people in Zurich. Whoever is studying in Zurich is using the Central Library. For students and avid readers who want to find rare and in cases truly antique books this is the place to go.After perusing ancient tomes this avis reader loves to rest his weary eyes on the beautiful young ladies getting in the delicious reveries of old age - free from actual craving and lustful thinking - who diligently study in quiet booths or scurry between the racks.
Security is rather friendly but keeps a keen eye on silence and prevention of theft, a worthwhile experience by all means.
Walk via Central through the famous Niederdörfli to Predigerplatz where you find the Zentralbibliothek

This is the main library in Zurich and it’s located in the old town area. The building is really beautiful and stands out.

The Central library is located in the old spot of the Dominican monastery connected to the Predigerkirche. If you visit the church, you will get a great view of the architecture of the neighboring library. It has great location in the heart of the "Old Town". Like so many other civic buildings in Zurich, it is beautiful and impressive.

This is a beautiful building right next to Old town. It has a striking tower to the building and amazing architectural details. Definitely worth visiting when in Zurich.

Wow!! What a huge library! I went there just because I needed a place to study and I am completely in love with that place! In my point of view, offers the best infrastructure that a student can expect from a library.

The Central library is located right next to the Predigerkirche and you can admire the exterior of both structures in the same visit. I didn't go inside the library but it appeared to be open when I visited on a Saturday morning in Jan. Solid and imposing looking building.

Zurich has too many churches, too much money, lots of students, and way too few faithful parishioners.
So it was easy to convert this huge old church into a beautiful large library.
Get in early if you want to reserve a seat for a good day of learning.
