Looking at the headstones and calculating the ages and the years - it is most sobering and thought provoking.

They lie peacefully sleeping and died doing what they loved. A very special and emotional place after visiting the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise this morning. Highly recommended.

It's a sobering place - buried here are some of the folks who died climbing the mountain. It's peaceful and moving, with some wonderful headstones. Take a half hour and visit this beautiful moving place (just a block or so off the main street).

This small cemetery has the graves of many adventurers who've lost their lives climbing the Matterhorn. It's a pretty spot with some poignant stories. So many young deaths.

We have a guide who is an experienced Alps climber so he related the stories and historical background of the first summiteers and their deaths. Quite interesting and sad that some have lost their lives.
