From the Birg terrace the cliff pathway THRILL WALK leads down into the vertical walls of the imposing rock massif. The steel structure clings to the rock, and then swings under the observation platform and the cable car to end below the cable car station.

- Arthur MHamilton, Canada1,621 contributionsStunning and thrilling at the same time! This is the intermediate stop to the Schilthorn gondola. During my time of visit, the course was only half-open. The gate was closed in the middle of the walk, so only the hanging bridge and the glass walk were open. But regardless, I enjoyed it. And unfortunately, I saw an ibex climbing up, but wasn't able to capture a picture since the gondola was moving too fast. Oh well, but yes, wildlife exists!Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 20 November 2023

Was quite amazing that this was built hanging off the side of the mountain. Teens loved the glass floor and the wire walk. View was a complete white out, but, that’s a nature issue!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 June 2024
- SWOttawa, Canada69 contributionsThrilling « thrill walk »While staying in Murren for a few days we wanted to go up the top and this was one of the stops on the way up. Lots of construction underway, but there was still lots to enjoy. Definitely was a « thrill walk » from the rope to the glass floor, but on a clear day it’s a beautiful view and worth the stop. Lots of options to grab a bite to eat or have a snack and use the washroom before heading up to the top. While it was a really cool experience and we’re glad we went, we found it very expensive at 85 Swiss franks.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 June 2024

The thrill walk was closed due to snow and rain, hence, we could not try. It's good when it's not cloudy and raining to experience the thrill. nevertheless, we enjoyed our cold and wet trip to the mountains.

It’s not every day you go up a cable car in the mountains! Spacious cable cars and informative, friendly staff. This was a fantastic experience we weren’t planning to even do but I couldn’t imagine our trip to Switzerland now without it! Views are spectacular and great photo opportunities. It may not be for you if you’re not keen on heights but you can stop off at various points if you don’t feel you can go higher.

Absolutely fantastic! We had amazing weather and very few people around due to Covid. This as all new since our last visit to Brig and we really enjoyed it.
We then walked up to the Schilthorn from Birg - a fablulous walk, a bit challenging in places, but well worth the effort.

There are a lot of steps to walk down to the walkway. You can do this if you are afraid of heights, my friend is and she survived. You either walk on a metal grate or in some spots, clear heavy plastic flooring. You can have some more fun and climb through the chain link fence tunnel or walk a tightrope or walk around it on the metal flooring. Excellent views!

On the 30 minute ride to the Schilthorn you'll switch cable cars in Birg - elevation about 8800 feet. Before you take the final ride to the top - get off at this station and try the Thrill Walk. The thrill walk is free with the purchase of the cable car ride. Tickets are about $50.00 - if you have a Swiss travel pass the entrance is included. The walk does have a few dozen stairs. The walkway is installed on the vertical walls of a rock cliff. The walk is about 200 yards, along the way there are opportunities to walk a cable tightrope & crawl through a cage suspended far above the ground. On a nice day the views are incredible - skip going on a cloudy day - when the clouds come it visibility can become non existent.

Do this on the way down from the top - thrilling walk, especially on a clear day, around the base of the mid-mountain tram station at Birg with glass floors and tightrope walk (with chain link netting) over a 1,000 foot drop. It's very safe but the views are thrilling! Price included with your tram ticket.

Getting to Birg and Schilthorn requires a lot of changing trains, gondola, cable cars etc but it is amazingly easy and everything is so timed and co-ordinated. We left from Grindelwald via train. We changed train at Zweilutschinen and got a train to Lauterbrunnen. From Lauterbrunnen it was a gondola/cable car to Murren. We then walked through the town of Murren (which is beautiful) where you then get another cable car up to Birg. It all sounds so complicated but yet as you stepped off one train or cable car the next was waiting and well sign posted. We got one ticket so it covered all forms of transportation to the top and it was such a scenic trip we really didn't mind changing at each stop and it added to the trip.
Once you get off at Birg there is not much there apart from snow and the thrill walk but you have to stop here on your way up to Schilthorn and Bond World so you would be crazy not to spend time here.
The actual walk is fantastic. It is a metal walkway that is attached to the side of the mountain. Some parts are glass and other parts are grated walk ways but you honestly feel safe the whole way around. We did the walk over the wire and through the fence tunnel which was suspended nearly 3500 metres above sea level and it was great. it got a bit snowy and very windy during the walk so the glass was very slippery but it was fine if you stuck to the sides. i am so glad we did this as it was just fabulous and the views were spectacular. When you get to the end of the walk it is a bit of a steep climb in soft snow back to the entrance. After watching a few people going up on hands and knees as it was thick powdery snow, we decided it was easier to walk back around the walkway.
There is quite a few steps to get down to the walk way or back up if you don't climb the hill, so it is not accessible for people in wheelchairs or not so agile. It is good for kids as long ad they have adult supervision but definitely not for anybody scared of heights. if you don't have an issue with heights then you will just love the scenery as it really is not scary.
After you have finished here it is another cable car up to Schilthorn to visit Bond World and more sensational scenery. On the way back down, perhaps due to it being later in the day, the cable cars were jam packed so that you could even move but it is a quick trip down luckily. Definitely worth the visit.

Hello, we are staying at the Hotel Oberland in Lauterbrunnen. Can you please let us know how to get to the thrill walk and then on up to Schilthorn? I believe a gondola may take us up all the way? Where would I purchase tickets?
Thank you in advance!
Written 13 August 2023
You can purchase tickets at the ticket office in Stechelberg. The workers there will speak English and can help you with questions.

I have read that dogs are allowed on the cable-cars and restaurants, which is excellent.
But can anyone confirm if they are allowed in other areas such as the viewing platforms and skyline / thrill walk?

Is the thrill walk open when snowing? Even heavy snow?

Hey. Is it possible to take a Dog?

Hey Kkerryann. By public transportation from Bern to Birg, via Interlaken Ost and Lauterbrunnen takes 2 hours and 20 minutes. By car you drive to Stechelberg. The gondola to Birg and the Thrill Walk is 25 minutes. You'll like it !

A few questions:
How do you get here from zurich?
what is the likelihood of it being closed mid november? Is there a lot of snow at that time?
Thanks!

Dear Anty C
From Lauterbrunnen you have to take the bus to Stechelberg, Schilthornbahn. From there you can take the cable car up to Birg.
Please do not hesitate to contact if you have any further questions.
