The cathedral represents one of the last monumental Baroque monastic...

The cathedral represents one of the last monumental Baroque monastic constructions in Europe. It was built from 1755 to 1767 under the direction of Vorarlberg native and master builder Johann Michael Beer.

The choir stalls with 84 lovely carved seats and the historic organ are works of art in and of themselves. Every Tuesday, there is a Evening Prayer (Domvesper)at 5.30 P.M.

The inside of the church is painted in vibrant colours and adorned with stucco, and the interior is decorated with numerous carvings. A serene atmosphere prevails in the church thanks to the soft lighting and malachite green stucco.

After the secularisation of the Convent in 1805, the church became a parish church and 1847 at the same time cathedral of the new founded diocese.

In 2013, the altar area was renewed. Especially impressive is the baptism fountain with the respecting of the frescos of the cupola.

Beside the different liturgy Services and concerts there are also guided tours, for example from may to September every Saturday at 10.30 A.M. (Free admission, collect).

... late baroque with rich yet tasteful decoration. Surprising low ceiling. Few visitors on a sunday winter morning. A bit of a shame that larger parts are locked and not available for visti. Maybe for guided tours but not to the public ?

The Convent of St. Gall is a wonderful place, not only the dome, but also the place in front of the church and the whole surrounding of the old part of the city of St. Gallen

This, coupled with the Cathedral & Abbey Library, is a must see when visiting Switzerland. It is part of a comprehensive religious complex. The cathedral was constructed in the 18th century and has beautiful artwork on the ceilings, as well as master wood and stone carvings. Beautiful library with ornate ceilings and columns. There are many artful manuscripts in casements... More

St. Gallen is a picturesque city with stunning architecture and buildings everywhere you walk and the cathedral is no different. Enjoy the grounds and square, and be sure to find your way inside, you won't be disappointed.

The Baroque cathedral is very impressive and ornate. Ditto for the front façade. Definitely worth a stop in St. Gallen. Be sure to tour the library as well.

We went to St. Gallen just to see the Abbey. It would have been nice if there were signs directing tourists to it. The outside is simple but the inside is gorgeous. A lot of beautiful paintings and woodwork.

Convent of St Gall is one of the main reasons to visit the town. Added as a Unesco World Heritage site in 1983.

This sight is one of the major touristic sight of the town of St.Gallen, the tiny town in NE region of Switzerland. Convent outside itself is not that stunning but the interior is quite fantastic. Hugh nice painting on the wall and ceiling is something that every tourists would love to see.

This truly is a historic monument of work to see and the imagination and time that went into this is remarkable and worth stopping and appreciating without question. I was inside during a morning walk at 6 am and the only one in the building and it was very peaceful
