The Abbey Library St. Gallen, famous for its beautiful baroque hall, is one of the oldest libraries in the world. And it holds one of the most important manuscript collections in Europe, especially for the Carolingian and Ottonian period from the 8th to the 11th century. The collection is presented to the visitors in changing and thematised expositions. The library forms the central part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Convent of St. Gallen.

Worth the visit if you are already in St Gallen. Get the audioguide and bring your own earbuds (share with your partner)--the guide takes you all around the library and the surrounding grounds

Go see the library. It is an amazingly beautiful place. There is wonderful woodwork and the smell of old books, but you should know that you are not going to get any wonderful photos there, as you are not allowed to take pictures inside.

Very renowned and splendidly maintained, this library is a real pearl! Not only the woodwork and the ceiling fresco's are impressive, but also the thousands of books, some of which are exposed in special cases.

Amazing experience. To visit one of the oldest libraries in the world, to read in the monastery rule from 850 that "one shall read every day", to admire the heritage created by thousands of people over the last 1300 years, arising even with bolder plans...More

There are two online postings that show differing hours, could someone confirm if the Abbey Library is open on Saturdays?
