Exceptionally beautiful buildings are the hallmark. Including the grand and historic Town Hall.

You can’t miss this square if you’re walking in Old Town Lucerne along the water. It’s a pretty central spot and you’ll stumble through even without looking for it. The painted buildings and quiet will transport you.

This is a market square that you will likely stumble upon whilst exploring the main area of Lucerne, whilst not essential if you have enough time in the city you will end up here. There are plenty of shops and food around here as well.

Kornmarkt is a large city center filled with shops & restaurants. It is a must see when in Lucerne, but my family of four found it to be a little dirtier than the other Old Town / City Centers that we visited in Germany & Austria. It is more sprawling so expect to walk more than usual. We found most of the restaurants in this area to be okay. Service in general in Lucerne was definitely lower than other cities we visited. Shops & food are very expensive and it seems that the service caters to only those who spend the most money. Some of the shops carry very high end merchandise which warrants the higher prices. However, some shops had high prices on low end merchandise. The food in this area (that we tried) was not worth the price we had to pay. I would say that singles or couples would enjoy this area more than families, but still a must visit for everyone.

Right in the centre of Luzern just up a large flight of steps from the river and embracing the ciry hall is Kornmarkt, centre of the old town of Luzern. I saw so much from my window on the 5th floor.

Cobblestone shopping street filled with various stores, ranging from super expensive to affordable. Bought nice sweater with decent price at a fashion store that was having a discount. We also went to a huge chocolate shop filled with tourist, as this is our first stop on a 2 weeks trip, we did not know any better and buy lots of chocolate there. Turns out there’s a supermarket not far from the shop that sells the same thing with cheaper price. There’s also a small bakery selling ovomaltine pastries which is delicious. We enjoyed our afternoon here but half a day is more than enough.
Tips: buy your chocolate souvenir at supermarket (if i remember correctly: COOP) instead of the chocolate store. There are more interesting chocolate varieties and definitely cheaper. Don’t make the same mistake as we did.

The Kornmarkt is a small but charming square at the foot of City Hall in Lucerne's Old Town. This is the heart of Lucerne, with hotels, restaurants and historic places all around you.

This is a quaint cobblestone lined shopping center in the old town, there are hundreds of shops, restaurants, and hotels here, we spent an entire day shopping and eating, when in Lucerne you will need at least 6 hours here.

Kornmarkt ( Grain Market) served as the the name states - as the center of grain trade and it is also the location to the Rathaus (Town Hall). This square dates back to 1356 with the ground floor of the Rathaus serving as grain storage in the early centuries of existence. Today the square is centrally located in Old Town and has many hotels, restaurants and shops in and around the square. Anyone visiting Lucerne will certainly walk through this square at some point due to its location. It is just a short walk from the Chapel Bridge and steps from the Reuss River and riverside dining. If you do not want a full dinner, just relax with a good cup of coffee and watch all the people strolling around and learn of the Kornmarkt's interesting history.

How far is this market from the train station. We would be arriving from Zurich.

About 10-15 minutes. Make sure to have your camera at the ready, there are some beautiful opportunities for great shots as you walk that way. Enjoy
