We stayed in a hotel in the old town (altstadt), and it was easy to walk from our hotel to throughout the old part of the city. There is a nice variety of shops within this walking only district. One can wander a bit up some of the stairs to the north and end up by the old city wall.... More

There are high end shops and there are small souvenir shops and chocolaterie. The nice thing is that theres a lake at the middle so even walking can be refreshing in winter. But one has to have good rubber shoes. You will do a lot of walking here and its full of cobblestones everywhere !

Wonderful at any time of the day. Old town Lucerne is so quaint and incredibly pretty. It's lovely just to wander through the streets exploring and looking at the different places and old architecture. You can then get an ice-cream or coffee on the side of the waterways.

Although there are lots of tourists in Lucerne, roaming around the streets of Old Town is a very gratifying experience, especially among couples. Definitely a European architecture, old town has lots to offer including its cafes, restaurants and luxurious shops. There is an unmistakable charm about it that kept me coming back to it. I highly recommend it for couples.

Lucerne is a gorgeous city and very easy to navigate through. The main train station is typical Swiss - efficient and everything is always on time. From the train station, there is a short walk to the lake shore, and beautiful views of the mountains in the background. Also close to the train station, are two incredible old covered wooden... The streets are narrow and some are cobbled. Take in a coffe or wine in one of the lovely lakeside cafes. Walk the old city wall and see the wonderful view over the town most enjoyable.

Lecerne's location on the shores of the Lake of four Cantons - Vierwaldstättersee - and with breathtaking views to Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi as well as the Central Swiss Alps as a backdrop - is unique and worth a visit in itself. The Old Town is crowned by seven towers along the Musegg ridge. Famous is the Kapellbrücke joing... More
