We spent several hours touring the old town of Lucern. There is a lot to see and learn. Many of the old buildings are stunningly beautiful. This was obviously a very wealthy city. The bridges across the river display historical scenes and are historical treasures in their own right. In addition to old buildings, there is lots of shopping and... More

You get to walk thru the old part of town with limited autos/trucks. Lots of shopping!!! One of our favorite things to do!

We saw the old town on our 'self guided walking tour' following much of the route recommended in the official city guide, but we stayed north of the river. . The walk was undulating, uphill and downhill, along narrow cobbled lanes, past shops, little restaurants, schools, homes, a church, an ancient city wall, and led eventually to the Dying Lion... It's inexpensive to window shop in Old Town on a Sunday. It was my only day in Lucerne. There was a marathon, a half and a quarter marathon, and so I wandered and kept out of the way as I looked at the buildings, plazas, and fountains of old town Lucern

Lucerne Old Town is lovely and very walkable. Plenty of charm and beauty, especially worth the visit on market days (Tues and Sat mornings) when market lines river on both sides with bountiful seasonal delicacies as well as beautiful flowers. Make sure to peak into baroque Jesuitenkirche church as well as the tiny but interesting Picasso Museum. Note town wall... More

Beautiful city like out of a postcard. Set on a lake with the Alps in the background. Walked across a very old covered bridge near where old mills used to operate.

Although small the city offers many attractions and good options to eat. Walk along its many historical bridges and get some fondue on the lakes quai
