This train station has some good shopping, clothes, chocolates, food, etc.
On Jan 1 most of the town shops were closed and it seemed too cloudy to go to one of the mountains. So I hung out in the Train station for several hours, shopping, eating and people watching. There was a lot of activity in the station. Tibits, a restaurant had good juices, hot chocolate and a variety of other options. I did some clothes shopping as well.

The station is well maintained, clean and easily navigated. There are multiple platforms that are clearly marked. There are several food stores inside as well as ticket consoles.

It is central to just about everything in lucerne and is accessible via other trains, bus and taxi.

Lucerne Station shouldn't be missed. The arches can be seen from almost any location in Lucerne. On the city tour we had we were told that inside the arches was piping cleverly hidden to provide ventilation for the train station below. Taking the escalator down to the train station brings a whole new world of things to see. Restaurants shops and more. Honestly you could spend a few hours there browsing shops and trying some of the unique interesting looking Swiss fast foods.

It’s great to see around the world that Railway Stations have become architectural delights.
This is no different with the old original gateway still in place as the iconic entrance to the station.
Just loved the structure and it’s design.
A master piece.

Swiss railway counts in world's best, and the same applies to their railway stations.
All of them are in the very city center, with a bunch of other public transport lines in front to take you wherever you need.
The station is a small town within a town with everything you need - food, storage, shopping,...
The old facade stands as a reminder of a bygone era in front of the new modern edifice - a very successful mix of styles.

The station is very clean and well stocked with shops, restaurants, hairdressers and more.

We left our baggage in the luggage lockers before going to explore the lovely city. They were very easy to use.

The station is well located and the main entrance/ exit takes you into the heart of the city.

Even for tourists who don't know a thing about the station, it is easy to spot the platforms and see information about the trains. I also saw a cute Globi-themed train car. Will definitely get on the Globi express next time!

There were two previous stations, with the first in wood opening in 1856. A second one was operational from 1896.

Fire destroyed it in 1971 and 20 years later its replacement was unveiled. A vestige from the previous one now stands as the fine arch in front. It has atop a sculpture called Zeitgeist by Richard Kissling.

A shopping arcade with many outlets including eateries is one of the fine aspects of the modern edifice.

Lucerne train station is well centralised with close access to the bus station, the KKL and the train station. This Lucerne station houses many shops (at platform level and in the basement) with particularly extended opening hours. A new station was inaugurated in 1991 after the old building was destroyed exactly 20 years before (1971) by fire. The main gate of the old station (Torbogen), which had been spared fire, now sits on the station square. At the top of the door is a statue of the Swiss sculptor Richard Kissling. His name: "Zeitgeist" (Spirit of the Time).

Lucerne railway station was our convenient gateway to travel to Mt. Rigi and to see the famous wooden Chapel bridge, The water tower and the Lion monument. The building was a grand construction, very much modern to meet with current needs of travellers having shops, restaurants etc. within, with the old beautiful façade of the old building conserved with their ornamentation to give elegance to the precinct. The historical statues on the arch of the remaining part of the old building were extremely beautiful. Station was by the side of the lake making it easy to board the steamers that were operating in the lake Lucerne.
