We went on a tour last week, no online booking possible, just show up and hope for a spot. The guided tour consists of going to the synchrocyclotron, watching a short movie/animation about it, and then listening to a staff member speak for 30 minutes in a dark room, with no chairs available, standing space only. The staff member was hard to understand and recited too many numbers, instead of explaining the key principles of what CERN does. It's a shame that things were not presented in layman's terms, and that no seats were available for elderly/young/disabled people. To make things worse, the staff at the gift shop were rude and unhelpful when it came to choosing t-shirt sizes. Given how exciting and cool the CERN visit could have been, I would have hoped for better...

CERN was the only place we visited that required the Swiss QR code. You can apply online by uploading your vaccine cert photo etc but they take 7 days to process. We received our QR codes the day we were flying out. Will visit next time!

We visited during covid/ Aug 2021. Not everything was open but nevertheless a tour that we manage to get on by arriving early at 8 am was very informative, and interesting. Our guide cannot contain his passion for all things particle, and was able to answer every question from the group of fellow nerds who , as us, got lucky to be on this tour.

The free exhibition allows you to know enough about CERN. The one-hour guided tour was really not necessary especially that we waited 2 hours for it. Conclusion, scientists might not be the best type of tourist guides. The guide was a scientist from Argentina. He was very friendly but his English was a bit hard to understand, especially when he did his science talk :)...Also, he wasn't prepared for the guided tour at all. He said he had not entered the site that we were supposed to visit for 2 years. We saw the first generation of the collider, it was a 30 mins amazing video show. After that, he tried to paraphrase all that was explained in the video....all in all, its worth visiting exhibition and may be the 3 hour guided tour if you are a big fan of physics since it says it will take you underground..but we don't know... BTW, Its all free! The Globe was closed for renovation.

Very old fashioned way of visitor treatment. Hourly guided tours with limited capacity and no reservation option so you come to CERN and you are either lucky or not to join into a tour. We travelled there on Saturday morning only to find out the next 3 tours (3 hours) were fully booked. Not a good experience at all. They should either hire more tour guides of arrange for on-line reservation I believe….
