About
Built in the Italian baroque style and crowned with a cupola, it was constructed between 1877 and 1884 by the art patron Gustave Revilliod to house his vast and eclectic collections. He bequeathed the museum and its surrounding park to the City of Geneva in 1890. Today it is known as the Swiss Museum for Ceramics and Glass. In the Musée Ariana are to be found the various ceramics and glass collections belonging to the City of Geneva. It is the only museum in Switzerland devoted entirely to ceramic and glass art and occupies an important place in this field. The collections, comprising more than 25,000 objects, illustrate seven centuries of ceramics ranging from Europe to the Far East. All the principal techniques are represented: earthenware, faïence, stoneware and porcelain. The collection of Middle Eastern ceramics and an important group of Oriental export porcelain highlight the interactions between the Orient and Europe.

If you like ceramics, porcelain, and glass - take the time to see this museum. It's a good overview of various influences and styles. The building and grounds are worth a walk around!

Visited Musée Ariana because the group wanted to go.
The musee is huge so it took us three to four hours to see everything.
There were lots of elegant ceramics.

Just up the street from The United Nations, the building is impressive and the collection of ceramics and glass is wonderful. We enjoyed our visit very much.

I've seen my share of glass and porcelain objects d'art, and I didn't find those housed in this museum any more or less special than elsewhere, but I did find the building itself a sight to behold. The ceilings rival some of the best in Italy. I enjoyed gawking at the building itself.

The most recognisable places in Genéve or Geneva Switzerland where the worlds Human Right Centre is founded, The UN Building is just few steps away from Musee Ariana. If you’re here for meetings or conferences, make sure not to miss this beautiful mansion set within the parks nearby to UN Building. For art and antique lovers, you could spend a long hour appreciating what’s inside this Musee. Full range of Chinaware, European and Swiss porcelain ceramics and sculptures dated from 15th - 19 centuries. The European architecture and interior is the main attraction that leads into defining pieces of collections. Everything pieces of dinnerware is just nice to look at. Most of them are gorgeous and in details on how defined the masterwork quality ahead of our times.
To get here is simply easy, just take a tramp number 15 from Gare Cornavin heading towards Nations which means UN Centre.

Had some time to fill before our tour at the Palais des Nations would start, so went to the Ariana which was close by and free. Was definitely worthwhile. Has a mixture of old ceramics which spoke of their era and thought-provoking new modern works. Liked it.

It is a one-building situation but it had plenty of history, Egyptian history stole the show. It is surrounded by a large park and you can spot Ghandi's statue nearby.

Was walking around the park area around the UN (Ariana Park) and happened upon this building. The fountain and the building behind it looked really nice. Didn't have time to go in but would have been interesting to do so. Probably worth the time if you do like intricate buildings.

If you love architecture and more to the point ceramics, this museum is for you. The little tea room/ coffee shop on the first floor was closed, but looked really nice and with a lovely view of the gardens. The building and setting are beautiful and the history of them interesting to read about. No harm in visiting if you are in the area but not somewhere to go out of your way to unless you are a lover of all things ceramic!

It´s a wonderful museum just 5 minutes by foot from UN (place des Nations). It's free and frequently there are not lines to enter or many people there such as into the Louvre Museum or Metropolitan. You can appreciate a huge collection of ancient ceramics vases, plates, glasses, carillons, paintings etc. Outside you can rest in a beautiful park.I highly recommend.
