This is the Bern mountain. Then 15 minutes with street car from the center of Bern. Great view of the Swiss Alps and around. Fantastic place for children too. Nice Restaurants (1 is self service, good prices.) some times different shows and concerts. There is also a bike trail or you just hike a bit. Easy trail. Great place to go out of the city and very close at the same time.

We went to Gurten last month expecting tobogganing or sledging to be open, but it was closed. Check the timings always before you decide for such activities esp with changing climate. For little kids, it's a fun day out. You have an eat-in option in the hotel as well or picnic in park with kids. Spacious for jogs or running, and good to go for wilderness treks. But I would suggest all this if you are a local or haven't travelled too much already to reach Gurten. It's certainly not an overwhelming experience but a chilled day-out.

Gurten is Bern's 'Hausberg' and easy to get to either by cablecar from Wabern or by manpower. You can come here for a walk (about an hour) or cycle up here any time of the year. The park is lovely. Playgrounds for kids, even walking paths for the grandparents, a restaurant, café and even a beautiful luxury hotel in case you want to enjoy the spectacular view over Bern and towards the alps for longer. This is a perfect spot for a picnic, BBQ or beer with friends.

In a few minutes (12minutes from Center by tram) you can reach the cable car. And 5min later you find yourself on a Little hill. Where you have a amazing view over the City, the alps and the landscape. You can easy walk down (around 40 min). On Sunday crowded with People. especialy the two Restaurants.

Gurten is around 10 min by train of tram from the central station of Bern. You can then either take the Gurten Bahn or hike to the top (hiking takes 30-45 min)... from the top, you get a nice view in all directions if the weather allows it... and there are quite a few hiking routes there, and there is a nice restaurant GURTNERS...
