Parliament was not open for tours the day we were in Bern but we still enjoyed strolling around the building and going into the main foyer to admire the architecture and learn about Swiss democracy.

It's one of the main sights in Bern and a place you have to visit when in the Swiss capital. There is the possibility to do a guided tour.

In summer, kids love to play on the square, in particular the water fountains are popular. On Tuesday and Saturday is market day, an excellent opportunity to buy fresh local produce. Meat and cheese is on offer as well. Nearby is the Bärenplatz with many restaurants for eating and / or drinking.

While visiting Bern for the day I decided to stop by the Bundeshaus. The architecture, sculpture, stained glass, wood work, and art was very pretty. The tour guide was very knowledgable and did a great job explaining the Swiss government and comparing it to others around the world.

This is an impressive building with an excellent view from the terrace behind it. Worth a quick walk around.

Unfortunately on the day we were there we were not able to take an English speaking tour because none were arranged. So while we were not able to vie the inside grandeur, we could see the scale of the building from the outside and take in some great views from the promenade outside the entrance.

The tour of the Bundeshaus provided a useful overview of the Swiss system of government and its founding myths. With many statues, wood carvings and frescos, this is one hour well spent in Bern. You can reserve tickets by phoning or visiting their website.

It was saturday and we realised that there was a ''open house'' event for Federal Building. It was a chance for us for getting in the Swiss Bundeshaus. It's a fact that the building itself from outside is very impressive and man can imagine how impressive the inside !!! After passing through the intensive security control area , you can... More
