The Zytglogge is quite the site to see! It dates back to 1530. (So many things in Bern have quite the history!) I was there with a group, waiting for the hour to chime. There is a bronze figure at the top, that hits a...More

Do visit the clock tower, but expect that you will be one of many tourists gawking when the clock strikes the hour.

This lovely old town clock is well worth 5 minutes of your time. catch it at just before the hour and watch the figures 'dance' around as the chimes go. it makes a very strange noise just before the movement starts so you can start...More

If there is a crowd somewhere, you will usually believe it is worth waiting. This applies here and there is nothing to see. It was 1pm... so I observed one gong... and that’s it !

What best remember me about how beautiful Bern is . The clock tower to me was symbolic of the city. Nice to observe how it is made. Nice to see how it reflects what it is.

Best to go when the figures are all in action. Crowds of tour parties were lined up for the big photo shots at noon.

My favorite travel writer describes the hourly performance of the Zytglogge a non-event ... and that is absolute truth! Starting at four minutes before the hour, the rooster crows once (big gap -- maybe a minute), the jester rings bells for the time while the...More

I do not understand how anyone could have seen this and not thought it to be amazing. The clock tower and the clock are both mammoth-sized and utterly beautiful. The chimes/bells sound so lovely as well. This is truly a part of the town's history.

It’s a beautiful clock by a beautiful area of town. However, the mechanism of the clock is disappointing comparing to the one in Prague Old Town. You could see the disappointed expression of everyone’s face on top of the hour. If you’re there, ok. Don’t...More
