This square was also built at the same time as the construction of the Bundeshaus. Around the square are a few large bank buildings. The square was mainly used as a parking lot and on Tuesdays and Saturdays there was a market, which are still there today. After a renovation of the square, it became car-free from 2004. You will now see a number of chairs to rest or where people paint the square/building. On the western part of the square is a water feature consisting of 26 fountains, symbolizing the 26 cantons of the Swiss Confederation.
In addition to the market, it is now used for events, there is also a Christmas market and an ice rink in winter. From mid-October to mid-November there is a Light and sound show at the Bundeshaus: Rendezvous Bundesplatz which must be beautiful.

Bern is a very pretty city. The visit is best done on foot. We leave the station and go down towards the Aare to the bear scythe. There are many small restaurants and shops. You can eat in the parks. The light show on the Federal Square was very good at the beginning but it becomes difficult to repeat but you have to at least have done it once.

I walked around here during my visit to Bern in December 2019. You can get a lot of nice photos here. During the evening there was an ice skating rink and it was fairly active. I would include Bundesplatz on any walk you take around Bern.

Bundesplatz is the biggest square in Bern and is home to two important national institutions - Swiss Parliament, the Curia Cnfederation Helveticae and the Central Swiss bank edifice next door.
Between them is a nice plaza with fountains and public chairs. Looks great both, day and night.

For those who vote and love this country. There is a great example of democracy inside these walls everyday. And from time to time you are welcome to join their debates.

Yesterday we visited Bern and clearly stopped in the square in front of our parliament.
There was a nice fresh market in front of it selling a lot of interesting veggies, pastries and cheeses, but the square itself is surprisingly unadorned, lacks charme and compared to other European capitals it was quite a disappointment.
I always wonder why our capital is not Zurich, since Bern is rather small and not particularly interesting...

I was passing by this square several times in Bern. It is very beautiful in all seasons. For example in winter time they install an ice skating field, where you can rent the ice skating shoes or you can also bring your own and you pay only the entrance ticket. There is no limit of time. There are more family and kids because it is mainly for them and the place is not so huge. During the summer time, there is some holes on the ground, where the water comes from and can be used as a fountain. You can find many kids playing and enjoying the time. From middle of October until the end of November there is the famous light show on the Bundeshouse (Parliament house). It is really amazing because every year they have a new theme to develop and you can watch it for free in the square. The quality of the projection is perfect and the sound perfect. There are n words to describe that, I recommend you to visit if you are in the right period, otherwise I warmly recommend you to watch the videos of the previous years on Youtube or on the official webpage. Enjoy the beauty of Bern!

One of the largest squares in Bern, when there is a lot of bars, shops and restaurants. At day time you can enjoy the sun and at night you can enjoy the night light show at 19:00 and at 20:30 every day.
