Small but full of treasures

we just loved our visit to this small but ever so interesting museum, it's a real travel in time and in beliefs , full of little treasures.

The setting alone is worth the visit. Just getting there is fun: you walk up a lane with stairs from the Market Square to the entrance, a medieval experience in itself. Once through the tunnel-like entrance, you are in an airy courtyard with a fountain at the end. This arrangement is what lies behind all those walls in Basel's old... More

My sister had an interest due to her work with pharmaceutical companies, but even I found it an interesting museum. Tip: bring your own headset and pay 2,- instead of 4,- for the audio guide.

A journey through attempts to medicate yourself and others. As other reviewers have said, the exhibits are all labelled in German but if you don’t want to hire an audioguide, with what labelling there is in each room, you can understand most of the exhibits without too many problems. The room sets are good, as are the individual items on... More

Don't miss this little gem in Basel. Beautiful collection, very authentic. A must see for homeopathic doctors, fytotherapist etc.

The small museum covers pharmaceuticals and medicine in general. Exhibits are labeled in German, but you can rent an audio tour in other languages. Only downside is lack of air conditioning in 93 degree weather.

Holy $$&;@; quite the exhibits. From the animals used for medicine to the natural powders to the equipment. Fascinating items and audio guide. Could spend hours more.

Well worth a visit, great exhibits and would recommend the audio tour due too all items with labels not in english, it's ok if you swiss or german. It looks at what would have been your local pharmacy back in the day to how medicine was made and a great exhibit of old pharma jars etc

As a pharmacy student I was so excited to visit this place Upon arrival it was about 21 francs for myself my mum and dad and you had to pay extra for an audio guide When we went in everything was labelled and explained in German so unless we paid extra for the English audio guide we had no idea... We are very sorry, that you have been disappointed by your visit. We are aware of the lack of information in other languages. There are however short texts in every room in three languages, that should sum up it's content. As we have thousands of objects on display in a historical display structure, the labelling of all objects in two... More

I just happened to find this place as I walked through Old Town Basel and saw a plaque stating the Paracelsus lived here as a guest. As a toxicologist, this was a fun find (Paracelsus is considered the "father of toxicology").
