There are 4 ferries which cross the Rhine at different points: St. Alban-Fähre – «Wild Maa» Münster-Fähre – «Leu» Klingental-Fähre – «Vogel Gryff» St. Johann-Fähre – «Ueli» All of them are worth a ride but the one below the Münster is my favourite one. Cost is currently CHF 1.60 per adult - children are CHF 0.80. The ferries can also... More

Although completely unnecessary (there are plenty of bridges!) the ferry is a pleasant way to cross the river. The boat has no motor and is powered only by the power of the river itself. It is cheap, I think only just over 1 CHF, and for that price is worth doing. The only potential downside is that they will only... More

This is a traditional ferry without a motor, that takes you across the Rhine to the other side. It is powered by the currents and a cable which is above. There are about 4 ferry crossings along the river. You can hop onto this ferry if you want to go across, for a small price of CHF 1.6. The Basel... More

Switzerland isn't cheap. And the big ferries that travel along the Rhein are no exception. But for a less expensive way to see Basel from the water, these awesome little boats are brilliant value. Only CHF1.60 each trip. Which is currently about EUR1.50 or £1.30. It's only a few minutes crossing, but well worth it for the experience of 'dancing... More

Since this is on our must do list in Basel, no amount of pouring rain going to stop us from fulfilling it. For 1.60 CHF each it was fun. Since it was motorless, using strictly water current below and a tether to a line above to cross the Rhine river back and forth in a matter of minutes, it is... More

There are four "Fähre" that will take you over the Rhine river. St. Johann Fähre "Ueli" is the one most impressive.

We walked across the bridge and down the Rhine Promenade until we reached one of the Rheinfahre. The view heading across to the Munster was beautiful. The ferry was an interesting concept where the current of the river is used to move the ferry. Interesting and well worth the time.

When I first looked down at this from the terrace behind the Cathedral I thought someone in the small boat was flying a kite. But no, it was a very unique ferry boat which traverses the Rhine back and forth. The only thing that propels it is the river itself. There is a steel cable from one side to the... More
