Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Friends told us about this walk and we were delighted they did!
We visited in August, so not only this was a journey that offered spiritual reflection, but also a welcome respite from the heat.
I have no problem with the small charge (voluntary anyway and no more than the cost of an ice-cream, to put it in context), if it keeps places like this going.
The illustrative panels gave us an opportunity to understand more about the surroundings and the well placed seats a chance to take all in. What marvellous scenery!
The little chapel at the bottom of the walk is a gem. The staff welcoming and friendly and the toilets (spotlessly clean) have one of the most beautiful view of the Basilica...
We completed the walk to the Third Paradise, the living sculpture. Amazing and again a stunning view of the rocca.
We did not rush and spent the morning enjoying this. We'll certainly do it again if in Assisi. In the kind of weather w encountered light walking shoes/trainers were fine, but bring some water for the walk - plenty at the fountain once at the small Chapel.

Unknown to me before I left America, a fellow tourist told me about this "park" which is found near the walls of the Basilica. As I entered, I had no idea how beautiful, and meaningful this place would become to me in my 5 days in Assisi.
Well shaded in the 90 degree heat, the trails, (steep at times) the entire 90 minutes spent walking and reflecting went by quickly, while I sat at times on the many benches along the way, I could not help think that this experience was the perfect way to integrate all that I had seen and felt in the city of Assisi (Churches, Basilica's etc) with what St. Francis was all about --- being one with nature and finding Divine expression in the birds, trees, air, and water.
I heartily recommend this as part of your pilgrim experience or if you're a lover of nature who wants to get a glimpse into the Assisi countryside without having to get in your car.
Wear good hiking shoes and bring a walking stick if you use one. The fresh water at Santa Croce was delightful. Walk all the way to the Terzo Paradiso where you will find such peace among the grove of Olive trees. (3 Euro suggested donation is well worth it)
Enjoy!

Bosco di San Francesco is a lovely walk through the woodlands below the Basilica of San Francesco. You can find the entry along the wall on the left hand side when you exit the upper basilica. The hike is approximately half an hour long, through lovely woods. If you use a walking stick, it helps at times, but it is not a difficult walk. Aside from being rewarded by the beauty of nature, you can also be rewarded with a lovely meal at the end of the trail, at the restaurant Osteria del Mulino. There is also a lovely little church, Santa Croce, just before you get to the restaurant, and a gift shop attached to it.

this is a walk in the woods. If you like trees and snails and spiders and all things green, this may be for you.
The trails are rocky and rough. The hills are steep. This is a hike not a walk. There is one beautiful spot where there's a clearing. You can see the back of the basilica. The other views are hidden by trees. Trees growing sideways on the mountain until you are dizzy. Not a place for me or anyone else that doesn't have hiking boots and a couple of walking poles.

The walk is really lovely through shady reclaimed and well managed woodland. The planting down by the stream is beautiful. It's a peaceful change from the streets and away from the roads. A new perspective looking up at the Basilica too. There is a suggested donation to visit which supports the work of the environmental project.

The trail through the Bosco is downhill to the bottom of the valley. Good shoes required and a bit of stamina, but it's not hard. We walked it at the end of May; there were still a few blossoms here and there. There's a restaurant at the bottom--Osteria del Mullino--which will likely be full, so a reservation's a good idea. The view of the Basilica on the return climb is very lovely and worth seeing. St. Francis walked here. You can almost feel that.

Our family of four completed our pilgrimage on foot to Assisi with the Bosco as our final approach. We had never been to Assisi before and I cannot imagine a better introduction to St Francis's home. To enter the unassuming gate, briefly be enclosed by the narrow stone street then be awash in the vista of the green and statue before the basilica with the plains beyond was sublime. Pax et Bonum!

Friends who have been to Assisi a number of times were not aware of the Bosco (Woodland) experience. The 1.5 Kms walk to the Benedictine convent is well worth it. Beware it's steep, a little rough in places and feels more like 3 Kms each way. Tip - you can easily drive to the convent if some of your party are not up to the return walk.

It's beautiful to walk the paths of this forest, where St. Francis walked. From the paths you can reach the center of Assisi directly

Buona visita, Alessandro.

È possibile fare percorso con sedia a rotelle?
Written 15 August 2019
