Breathtaking views and sunsets
Sep. 2019
Assisi is built right into Mount Subasio. As you walk the many streets of Assisi and go to the higher elevations you get a fantastic view of the valley below as well as the other mountains! Because of the elevation you get beautiful sunsets over the valley below and then as night settles in the lights of the valley look like twinkling stars!
If you walk to the Rocco Maggiore castle the view is even more spectacular! A must see while in Assisi! Wear good walking shoes!

Assisi - mt Subasio hiking
Aug. 2019 • Couples
From Assisi you can enjoy a nice hike into the mountains of Subasio.
Starting out at the entrance gate to Assisi Medieval center you let google maps take you to “ Rocca Minore “ the small castle. For some reason its not marked on the info signs.
Once you reach RM you will find a trek# 350 starting from the foot of the mountain.
Its a great trek/hike on gravel road changing to small paths further up. The climb is about 700 mtrs incline and i registered 14 km on my garmin gps watch

To find information of the route you can google mt. Subasio hiking, tripadvisor does not allow website promotions so you will need to do some research. The right place to start is parks dot it for italy

From there you can download a map and description of the route to the top.

You get a great view of Assisi from above in 1300 mtr’s height

We could not find the route 360 from the summit and back so we just walked back along the 350 where we came from.

Beautifull scenery and a 4,5 hours feeling that you still have a pulse......

Enjoy

PHENOMENAL VIEWS
Mar. 2019 • Couples
The town of Assisi is built upon the lower slopes of this mountain. As you climb the mountain towards the top, you are afforded fantastic views of the Spoleto plain.

The Monte Subasio is the mountain in Umbria, the province of Perugia. Assisi is built right on it. It is a beautiful area if the Italian countryside with winding roads, green sweeping landscapes that are home to olive fields and sunflower plants.

Cycle from Assisi along slopes Monte Subasio
Jun. 2014 • Solo
I took a tour organised by Ecologico tours who I found on the net. The bike was delivered to the apartment and a route itinerary and map provided. It was 44km on a circular route via Spello another medieval hilltop town. The return was along the valley floor on Tarmac and gravel roads. The bike selection a wide tyre 'city bike' 3 x 7' gears is perfect for the roads as potholes and rough parts are common.

As my wife does not cycle this was a perfect day for me to enjoy the scenery from the slopes of Monte Subasio through olive groves and overlooking the valley.

Bonus is I keep my cycling legs active.

The service is perfect with fluent English and English itinerary for the route.

Tired of the crowds of tourists? Go up the mountain.
May 2013 • Couples
You can drive to the top of the mountain in 30 minutes from Assisi. It's cooler up there, and views can be spectacular on a clear day. In spring, there are plenty of wildflowers, and some horses and cows in the pastures. Some people even walk all the way up.

Very windy at the top, so bring a windbreaker or a hang-glider.

what seemed like hundreds of hang gliders on a hill - waiting for wind

and quietly some summer ruffles hunters passed with their walking sticks and dog
