This museum underground holds the Roman artifacts that have been preserved in Assisi. The history of this town is incredible. As you walk the streets you can just try to imagine what was here and who walked these streets thousands of years ago.

A preserved street and many local funerary stones, under the main square in Assisi. Many fascinating relics, including the gravestones of slaves, freed slaves (including several women) and a praetorian guard. All this and dog-friendly too!

In the main piazza of Assisi you will find the Temple of Minerva which is now a Catholic Church. This is worth a visit; however, you're in for a big surprize if you enter the museum which lies beneath the main square. There you will...More

A former Roman temple converted to a “sort of” Catholic church-ish… The external looks impressive and the location is where thousands of people pass Assisi and gather around.

We loved this church, small and intimate and very beautiful. The columns outside at the front are quite remarkable, when one looks down at the steps you wonder who and when entered here.

Bang in the centre of assisi is the portico of a roman temple, with a newer church grafted onto the back. Better still, go down the road left of Tourist Info, to the museum, and you get to go under the town square and around...More

Under-rated Roman ruins that may be the ancient Roman forum or more likely, a religious complex associated with the above ground Temple of Minerva. Worth the small admissions fee and the 20 minutes for viewing,

We first visited the Museo e Foro Romano around 10 years ago and it has since been updated and extended. It is well worth a visit with many interesting exhibits and information on how Assisi would have looked in Roman times.

A little out of the normal traffic pattern to the other basilicas and churches but very beautiful and worth the visit.
