Dating back to the 12th century, this grand castle fortress dominates the region since it is perched atop a walled hilltop overlooking the city of Assisi and surrounding countryside.

Great views from up here. Effort has been made to turn some of the rooms into character pieces with furniture and costumes. More could be done with it but it was worth seeing.

We LOVED Assisi! Such a beautiful small town and the views from the fortress were stunning. It was cool to check out the inside but maybe not worth the 7 euro entrance fee but this seems to be a trend in Italy. If you're looking...More

We walked up here early in the day, the views are picture perfect. The castle is full of historical information and is interesting to explore.

The views from Rocca Maggiore are stunning and well worth the walk up to see. We went inside the Rocca and were not impressed. There are only a few things to see as some sections are closed. It didn't seem worth the entrance price as...More

Certainly worth the long climb to see both the castle and the fine views of Assisi. A great photo opportunity with most of the fort still intact on a very grand scale

The staircase to the top of the tower is narrow and slippery. I would not recommend it for anyone with small children or elderly. Views at the top are nice but the view in front of the castle is just as good without the steps....More

It’s a decent climb uphill but the views are simply outstanding! The castle doesn’t compare to others plus it doesn’t provide any better viewing as access battlements is not provided. So skip the admission and take in the view from it’s forecourt. Take some water...More

We went as a family of 4, two young children one of which was in a buggy. We walked from the town, you can park further up the hill but it's a risk you take on finding a space and hitting your car! It's a...More

From much of town and the surrounding countryside this ruined castle can be seen as it sat high above Assisi. It was a steady climb from the centre of town to the top. There was over one hundred metres of elevation gain to the Rocca...More
