About
I'm Katia and me and my uncle Fulvio run the Tuscan cooking class in our family Boutique farmhouse Il Vicario. We are 4 km far from the fantastic town of San Gimignano and we teach you how to prepare a real Tuscany meal but most important we teach you how the food should taste. Your meal will be a celebration and a fantastic time to spent in a real Tuscany family.

We spent three weeks in Italy, exploring the Amalfi Coast, hitting the nightlife in Rome, and riding horses through Tuscany. THIS COOKING CLASS was a highlight. We actually regularly make the sauces we learned to make, and often make the bruschetta when we have company. We have even whipped up our own handmade pasta a few times. This was just the most charming time in Italy and actually the yummiest wine I tried anywhere. I cannot recommend this enough!

Fulvio was extraordinary and made the experience so fun and relaxing. Great environment for learning. Such an amazing cook and teacher. Incredibly positive and practical advice for making a delicious meal. We took so much knowledge away from this afternoon that we can use forever. Absolutely charming location and experience. The highlight of our entire trip.

Cooking School? Sounds like a boring time to me.... Well get your fun clothes on and spend time with Katia.
Men and women alike will just love the time spent in this REAL Country in.
We made 3 kinds of pasta from scratch, 3 sauces, numerous first dishes and a great dessert.
Katia makes this a fun time and it is totally hands on. Then you drink wine while you eat your own creations. We left with understanding italian cooking and a load of recipes that we will now make at home. It is easier than we imagined.
We were in Italy for 12 days and this cooking class was the highlight.
Email Katia and Fulvo for reservations and details. You will not regret it.

We were referred to Il Vicario by the San Gimignano tourism office. We took a half day cookery class and had a wonderful time.
We learned to make Pici and Taglietelli pasta, two different sauces, panzanetta, bruschetta and orange chicken. It was just what we were looking for as we wanted a true Tuscan experience, not cooking at a commercial school in a commerical kitchen. We ate everything we made, and they gave us a taste of different local wines to accompany each course. We also got a handmade cookbook with our recipes to bring home. It was one of our most memorial days we spent in Tuscany.
We saw a bit of the grounds and the B&B, I would totally disagree with the person from NY who said this was dump. Our definitions are obviously quite different.

We had an intermediate class for 4 with Fulvio. What a wonderful day! He is a delight and is so well organized. We made many wonderful dishes (Saltimboca, panzanella, Bruschetta, tagliatelle with pancetta sauce, Farfalle with a lovely cannelinni/parmesan sauce, Tiramisu and more. It was my sisters' first time in Italy and they were completely charmed. Perfect mix of professionalism and friendly charm.

We were a family of 4 with two children ages 7 and 10. We had a great time at the cooking class. Katia made it very enjoyable. I loved the personal experience. Also just having only us it's great. We made homemade pasta, sauce and chicken. We get recipes for almost all the things. Katia is going to email me the recipe for that one item that was not in the book. Definitely one of the highlights in our trip.

We had a wonderful time at the cooking course as part of our honeymoon.
Katia was lovely and explained everything really well - by the end of the afternoon she felt like an old friend.
The day was really well structured and there was enough time to prepare and eat the food (and then make some more room before you made the next dish).
We prepared a couple of different antipasti dishes; panzanella, bruschetta and cheese and honey. We then made two different types of pasta, a tomato based one and a bean based creamy dish. Followed by chicken cooked in Marsala wine. Everything was delicious and the accompanying wines were good to!
Overall a fantastic experience in an authentic Tuscan home - would highly recommend.

The cooking class was close to our farm house in Sam Gimignano. This class is good for extreme beginners. I expected a bit more of italian cooking. 40% of the time,we were choopping vegetables and mixing the bread and topping the brusheta with Salad. For me the only beneficial bit was the PICI pasta and making of the sauce. The rest of the bit was extremen beginners which could have got from any cook book.
The hosts were welcoming. For the price, I would have wanted a bit more..

My mom and I had the best time taking the expert cooking class at Il Vicario; we were there for many hours learning how to make pasta from scratch, different sauces, and a plethora of other true Tuscan dishes that were amazing, including two different chicken dishes!! The wines paired with each dish were delicious as well. A fantastic afternoon of relaxed Italian cooking in a wonderful relaxed atmosphere!
I would highly recommend everyone take a cooking class here...or two!!

We thoroughly enjoyed learning to cook wonderful Tuscan dishes with Katia at Il Vicario during our stay in San Gimignano. Can't think of a better way to bring the best part of Italy home with us than to experience rolling our pasta (Pici), creating 3 different types of Bruschetta, making Panzanella and a healthy Fettuccine Alfredo (Fagioli cannellini e timo sauce) finishing with the tasty dish of Saltimboca. Katia kept the fun conversations going and the wines a flowing. She followed up by emailing us all the recipes we made. Priceless memories as we continue to make our favorites the true Tuscan way. . .thank you Katia!

I am interested in a 4-5 hour beginning cooking class with either Katia or Fulvio on a weekday from September 11-15. My family would include 4 adults that are especially interested in pastas and sauces. I am physically challenged and sitting to prepare the food will be a prerequisite. Your cooking class has gotten rave revues on line and is something that I know my family would appreciate.

I agree w/Kathleen. We, too, sat at a dining table to prepare many of the dishes, and I also agree that taking the course with your family (as opposed to joining another group) would be more relaxing (we were a group of 8).
As I recall, you can drive right up to the place which is like a charming home, and the dining table (doubling as food prep), kitchen (also used for some food prep), and toilet were all on one level and right by the parking area (i.e. no long walks and if there were any stairs there would only be a few at most). However, spaces may be tight (especially in the kitchen, but you can check ahead - perhaps they can rearrange furniture), and if you are completely wheelchair-bound it may be a difficult to get into the toilet, which is small.
The one thing which requires standing is the cooking which is done at a stove. However, if others in your group can stand, then they can do the cooking and you can help prep. We had a group of 8, as mentioned, and only a few of us cooked sauces or the chicken saltimbocca, and there was only one cook at a time. The rest of us prepped, watched, joked around, and took lots of pix!

Is the cooking class OK if you only speak English and not Italian?
Written 30 April 2017
Yes! Everyone in our group was non-Italian speaking Americans. Fulvio and Katia speak fluent English.
