The "hulking look" of a 12 th century church is a little tough to take after you have seen the Gothic churches, but it was the way they had to be built at that time. The technology simply was not yet there! Such churches paved the way for what we now admire. This one is on the main street through... More

There's not much to be said; if you like "those numerous italian painters", this will be enchanting for you; those old ladies in "Tea with Mussolini" were ready to sacrifice themselves for these works, so you can be sure that you will see better and more works than you have seen in many other italian churches, since the walls themselves... This is a nice church, it is the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, it is a Roman Catholic collegiate church and minor basilica located in San Gimignano town, situated in the Piazza del Duomo at the town's heart. The church is famous for its fresco cycles which include works by Domenico Ghirlandaio, Benozzo Gozzoli, Taddeo di Bartolo, Lippo Memmi... More

Santa Fina in a glass coffin was an interesting surprise but by far the best part was the amazing (gruesome on occasion) art work on the walls. Held the kids interest for 30 mins which is always a good sign

A really lovely church with some amazing frescos. Highlight though was seeing the body of Saint Fina in her glass coffin. Inexpensive to get in to.

We travelled from Florence on a "Day in Tuscany Tour" happily paid 4 Euros each entrance fee and were directed to the oppositer desk for our audio headphones. We showed our tickets and asked for English Language. We were then refused them because we did not have photo I.D. Our passports were in the hotel safe in Florence and our... More

The Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta houses some exceptionally fine frescoes delineating biblical stories from the old & new testaments - the Chapel of Santa Fina is particularly beautiful. Photos are allowed - no flash (at least, we had no problem taking photos). Admission is free - €4 for audioguide rental (recommended). There is also an adjacent Religious museum (which... More

This is one of the most interesting church in Tuscany. Together with he entrance ticket comes (free of charge) an audio guide in different languages which explains very well and in detail each corner of the church. It is a must to see, prepare to spend an hour at least.

The wall frescos in San Giminiano Duomo are some of the best I have seen, with scenes from the Old and New Testaments they are a marvel of the Italian art.

This is not one of the big beautiful cathedrals of Rome -- but it is beautiful in its own right. It has a lovely presence in San Gimignano and the walls of the church are covered with beautiful frescoes that tell stories of the New and Old Testaments. This was not a place we would spend hours at -- but... More
