This is the tallest tower of the 7 (?) in San Gimignano. The staircase has been replaced with modern wide metal stairs, making it really easy to climb, also with young children. There are only 218 steps to climb and you get to a really fantastic view of the city and the area. There's also a nice little museum at... More

If you are experiencing an overload from the grandeur and magnificence of Florence and Siena, a relaxing reprieve to the Tuscan countryside is in order. Surrounded by rolling hills covered with vineyards, the fortified hilltop village of San Gimignano with its skyscraper-like towers is just such a destination. Climbing 175 feet to the top of Torre Grossa is the must-do... More

The Torre Grossa is the tallest tower in the city and offers spectacular views overlooking San Gimignano - you can see for miles. There is a €7.50 fee to climb to the top and this includes entrance to the Pinacoteca Civica & Duomo). The stairway is an easy climb until you reach the last section to the top - via... More

Well worth the trip out to see some of the medieval buildings and towers. The tower itself is a fairly easy walk up steps although the ladder at the top to get outside was a bit tricky with smaller children. The views of the town are absolutely spectacular though and we spent hours just walking around the town.

We were looking for a great place to look over san gimigiano, since we arrived at an early hour and the town was kinda empty, and we found out about the tower. The price is a bit of expansive, but once u reach to the top- you find out that its worth the price... I would recommend to get there... More

Climbed the torre. It is worth the climb. I would not recommend it, if you are afraid of heights or have certain walking impairment. The final ladder is very narrow and you have to be aware of your head.

Well worth the €7.50 to climb the tower for some spectacular views around San Gimignano! A great overview of every angle of the town, as well as all over the nearby countryside! Just to note that the staircase is a modernised metal staircase around the inside of the tower, leaving an open void to look down inside the tower. All... More

We were early (9.30 am) and it was very quiet. As you'd expect stunning views of the town and the Tuscan countryside - head room at bottom and top of final ladder is restricted!! The ticket also includes entry to the Musei Civici and Duomo - all well worth seeing - beautiful early frescos and paintings.

Chose this one because it was the highest, although I don't think you can pick a bad one - views are all going to be pretty much the same and very pretty. Didn't opt for the museum option - tower only 7.50 Euros. Any height concerns will be exposed on the way up with the staircase - a ladder and... More

The climb is a little scary (at least it was for me!). but so worth it. The last leg is a tiny ladder, which can cause a traffic jam for people coming and going, but I didn't mind it. The views from the top a truly remarkable: you can see the whole countryside, and it's gorgeous! I enjoyed looking around... More
