Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our third visit to San Gimignano and this time in December without crowds. Visited the small museum (known for the wedding frescoes) and the tower. It is along climb to the top and my son reported an incredible view awaits the intrepid climber, but one fearful of heights will likely back out as I did. There is a small gift shop.

My less than 5 star rating is really a matter of how you handle heights rather than the tower. The inside stair case is about 8 stories high, about 3' to 4' wide and clings to the inside surface of the tower's stone wall with a large, empty space in the middle of the tower. Coupled with the stairs being a mesh that you can see through, after 3 stories my wife and I became uncomfortable with the height sensation and returned to the bottom (where we now understood why the person we saw waiting at the bottom as we'd headed up was there). Again, the tower is great, but for some the height sensation on the stairs will be a bit too much for comfort.

Great view to to rooftops and towers of San Gimignano from Torre Grossa.
A bit expensive, though (9€) if you just come for climb because the ticket is a combo-ticket.
For a free tower experience, climb the smaller - but free! - tower at the La Rocca Fortress ruin. You can find it on Google maps by writing "Turm im Park della Rocca".

San Gimignano was an amazing town and there's no better way to see it than from Torre Grossa. The climb was easy. The view gives you a great sense of why the towers were built in the first place. The view also gives you Tuscano in miniature: rolling countryside, hilltop towns with competing towers, hidden piazzas down crooked streets. Spent the rest of the afternoon hunting the romantic piazzas we saw from the tower.

The picturesque hilltop town of San Gimignano is capped by 14 towers, creating a unique medieval skyline above cobbled brick streets below. One of these towers, Torre Grossa, offers some of the best views of the town and the surrounding countryside. Wooded slopes, rolling hills and vine plantations extend in nearly every direction, making this well worth a visit to capture images of the Tuscan heartland.

The museum in itself was small, but OK. You will still get your money's worth when you walk up the tower and take in the view of the town and surrounding scenery. Breathtaking and simply beautiful.

Incredible views from the top of the Torre Grossa. The museum that comes with admission is ok, but the trip to the top is well worth it! You can see for miles and miles. We could see a storm three towns over. It was stunning!

A lot of the combined ticket items are very art and religion focused with less (no) detail about history and construction, but the tower itself really worth seeing. A lot of stairs, more than 300 to the top, but no problem if you have normal health. Amazing to think they built this 700 years ago and the open platform at the peak gives a superb 360 view of Tuscan countryside and town details below. Quite unique.

Hi,
Is "Torre Grossa" the same tower as "San Gimignano Bell Tower" or is it a different one? Are they close to each other?
Thanks
