About
Vernaccia di San Gimignano Wine Experience – La Rocca was created by Consorzio del Vino Vernaccia di San Gimignano. The name of the centre is a declaration of what it aims to be: a place to experience wine directly, which means more than simply tasting it, involving deeper knowledge and emotional contact as well. It represents a unique and original experiment in Tuscany and it is the first organisation managed by winemakers to use the latest technological and multimedia tools to offer visitors an immersive experience.

We actually never made it to the experience. Did not know that you had to use public parking in San Gimignano and walk to the winery. Had we had known we probably would have enjoyed it, but after driving around for over 20 min and trying to find this place, then not being able to find public parking we were running over 30min late. They called us and seemed somewhat irritated we were not there in time so we just told them to go on without us.
Unfortunately, I cannot say this was a good experience. Maybe they should make sure their customers know there is no private parking at the facility and you have to find public parking, which can be quite difficult in San Gimignano.
I’m pan ahead and get there extra early!

I review the ‘Vernaccia Di San Gimignano Wine Experience’. We entered into the ‘Rocca’ ready to taste few wines. There were three waitresses and we were the two of us only in the shop. You can purchase few cards of 6, 12 Euro or more and try up to 16 wines selecting the size of the glass. Now, i am not sure which kind of experience they try to induce. No explanation is provided. You basically pay and drink. I had to insist to have an explanation of the four riserva they offered. Still the explanation was poor and vague. The lady wasn’t very friendly. If you are there to induce an experience you better improve the approach to your guests as you are there to offer a view on a territory, wineries, and traditions. I discourage a visit to this site.

Booked this wine tasting / seminar before arriving in San Gimignano. It was a well designed tasting providing just the right amount of history and background of Vernacia di San Gimignano; a very local white wine and grape unique to this part of Tuscany. Classroom style in a stylish setting right inside the walls of San Gimignano. And, the wines were great too!

We visited this "wine shop" at the very top of the hilltown--worth the hike up, if only for the views of the countryside. This is more of a collective of numerous wineries in the region to sample the various wine producers and learn about the grapes (even going outside the region), the process of production, and local history. I was driving, so abstained, but got to sit at the table with my companions. There was a large room of tables just off where the dispensing machines from the cards. They bought the "mini-master" class which was supposed to be about 20-30 minutes of sampling flights, but it turned into a conversation of over an hour with a few extra samplings (there were not many people in town that day, so maybe he was bored, or my companions' keen interest and respect for his knowledge came through; they are chatty people, generally I am not). We asked many questions, got detailed answers, and learned lots (we have been to many wine regions and always learn something new). This was an excellent experience and we wish everybody could get the attention we got.

Brilliant afternoon with Andreas tasting Vernaccio and Chianti wines, served with local food.

The Masterclass started with a historical record of Vernaccio and San Gimignano wines, including a VR tour!

Then Andreas talked us through five wines (four are part of the tour and he gave us an extra special tasting too).

Nothing was rushed and there was no attempt to sell us any bottles of wine.

If you're looking for a passionate wne tasting with fabulous views do come here.

Highly recommended.

I would have loved to go to this experience. I tried to book it on my phone outside the winery, Because they don't have a desk, you go to it via a QR code. I tried multiple times to book and it kept saying I couldn't book or my cc would not process. I left and got back to the hotel to 2 emails saying I booked twice. I got in touch with them immediately to explain what happened and they accused me of holding 4 places from other people. They refunded one of the transactions but not both. I contacted them again and they again said I took up 4 places that other people could have had and refused to credit me the other booking that was 60 euros. I would not book this online as the system seems very shady. I was in Italy for 5 weeks and never had a problem like this with many other excursions or experiences that I booked on my phone.

Beautiful place run by the local wine consortium — they don’t sell wines at the site, but you can get a card for discounts if buying direct from the producers. They have different levels of tastings, to choose from — we got the basic one, so I can’t comment on the others, but we spent about an hour, and tasted a number of wines — about 8 in all. Andrea who led the testing is sommelier from San Gimignano, and knows the area and wines very well, and is passionate about the local produce. He took his time to explain the wine region in the context of Tuscany and Chianti in general and explain how the soils and climate are different from other regions and ideal for the white grape vernaccia: one of the oldest attested grapes. As I said we tasted about 8 wines with for whites from all delicious with some younger and some older and one ages in oak as well. He also poured three reds and the late harvest wine at the end. They also have a lovely patio he can sit on and finish the glass — or order a glass of wine if they are not busy with a tasting. I would highly recommend the experience if you are in San Gimignano and have the time.

Did the easy master class in wine tasting in the wine museum in San Gimignano a couple of days ago. It was a fantastic experience, Andreas ( hope I have the right name) was such an expert in his field and taught so much about the local wines, he exuded passion and the time we spent there was very enjoyable. We were four adults, and four children, and he had a a table set up with water and nibble for the kids, which we didn’t expected and was very welcome. It was not commercial in fact you cannot buy the wine in the museum so we just got took pictures of the labels of the wines we liked and got some information on the wineries which is the best place to buy wine, if time allows. I thought the wine tasting was very good value and would definitely recommend it if you would like to learn about wines.

We took a break here and stopped for a sip of wine at the museum to learn about the local grape. I was interested to learn about the area's local wine. A mistake on my part stopping here for that. Who would think a local wine museum would be part of that scenario. The staff here are about as friendly as a pack of doberman pinchers. Literally, Wow. Huge attitudes to say the least, and very little explanation other than here is the card, you pay and here is the wine. Well pardon me for interrupting your conversation. Considering the amount of staff in this place, with four people literally standing around talking, and no other customers in the shop, i would guess they would have the time to possibly explain maybe one of the the wines in the wine vending machines. Not a chance. Pay and figure it out for yourself. If there is a wine that runs out while it's dispensing, oh well you are out of luck. They are not changing the empty bottle for you even if you are willing to pay for more wine. You are far better off going to one of the small restaurants in the town and talking to someone there to get a history of the local wine.
