Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Long established enoteca. There is nothing wrong with the food or the wines, both are exceptional. Our issue is with the service. It was my partner’s 60th birthday. We sat for lunch and were fairly briskly served with some sparkling water while the older waiter/manager dealt with a larger party behind us. Things went down hill after that. We didn’t feel at all welcome to be there. No smiles, none of the usual pleasantries. We were recommended a wine after a short discussion about Italian grapes and stuff, and ordered food. When the polpetti came (I had quail) my wife asked for some cheese, either Pecorino or Parmesan to which a younger waiter with a Justin Bieber hair-do said “Are you sure? You know it’s a bit of an insult in Lucca to ask for cheese on your meatballs.” We were caught off guard and apologised profusely (Italian cuisine can be a minefield from region to region). We were now feeling very uncomfortable. Then he decided to make it worse by saying he was only joking and would get some cheese. Too late, mate. We sent the other, now confused and unhappy, waiter away with his cheese. My wife’s 60th birthday lunch went from special to weirdly embarrassing and stressful.

The wine selection here was great. The cellars are amazing. We bought some nice wine. The only downside was the wine being suggested was nearly always above the max price range we suggested.

Went to enoteca Vanni and was amazed at the selection of wines they had. From all over Italy as well as France and Germany and beyond. Of course we selected some Italian selections from Piemonte, Tuscany as well from Calabria. Amazing unique wines that I don’t think you will find at any other wine shops around. The amazing cellar is from Roman times and worth the visit. Prices are also incredible for the wines we purchased there from different vintages. A truly amazing experience. I recommend this wine shop for any wine enthusiast.

What a selection of great Italian wines! The shop looks tiny but the cellar underneath is vast and Paolo has some real treasures in there. Both Paolo and Simone are extremely knowledgeable about the wines and friendly. Ask them for recommendations - all the best local restaurant owners do.

What I loved: They ship worldwide, fuss-free.

Wow! I don't think you can buy a glass here, but this is a pilgrimage site for wine lovers. The store (on the street level) is not the main attraction. Ask to go downstairs ... room after room of fabulous wines ... vintages going back, way way back. If you are a wine geek you will love just seeing these grand old bottles. Not just Italian ... great German wines, French. Again, if you are a wine lover just wow. So much fun to see. Duck, really watch your head.

We were lucky to sit here and drink wine and watch the world walk by for several hours.

We did Pisa in the morning, drove to Lucca, checked in and saw the big cathedral. We were tired and needed a rest before contemplating dinner.

All the wine choices were relevant, no bargains, but prices not sky high. Service initially sluggish but the staff gradually warmed up. Not as many Americans here as in Florence.

We went inside and toured the underground cellars which was spectacular.

Appetizers generous and reasonable.

The little square in front was full of life the workday ended. A wonderful way to wind down after a big touring day.

Whether you’re a connoisseur of wine or some one who enjoys a glass now and then you need to visit the enoteco and maybe buy a bottle or two. Knowledgeable staff with enough English to be helpful. We bought 6 brunnellos ...all reasonably priced. The first two have been great experiences and we’re looking forward to the others.

While in Lucca, someone told us where we could purchase some local Tuscan wines. We visited and were greeted by a charming gentleman who immediately asked us what we were interested in purchasing and if we needed suggestions. Going into a wine shop in Italy can be very intimidating but they made the process very enjoyable and in perfect English. The help there is first rate. There seemed to be a number of English speaking clients sipping wine, visiting their extensive basement cellar and purchasing some of the fabulous Tuscan wines. Since we were staying in Lucca, we visited Enoteca Vanni five times!

Fabulous wines and a great menu of local Tuscan snack foods. Lovely piazza to sit and watch the world go by whilst enjoying great Tuscan red wines.
