Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The museum is located in the square next to the cathedral and can be accessed with a cumulative ticket which includes the climb to the bell tower and the excavations in the nearby Church of San Giovanni. The highlight of the museum is the Treasury room with the Jewels of the Holy Face, the wooden crucifix symbol of the city. The gold crown and collar used during the annual procession, a silver reproduction of the relic and the diamond jewel created by the French goldsmith's work of the Sun King's court are preserved there. There is also a video where you can see the prepared crucifix which is interesting now that the relic is being restored in the transept of the cathedral and not visible in its small temple.

With the cumulative ticket that includes the cathedral, the church of Santi Giovanni and Reparata, there is also a visit to the Cathedral museum. Recommended for those who want to deepen their knowledge of the cult of the Holy Face. Here are preserved the jewels and various ornaments of the aforementioned. But there are also other very interesting ancient works of art.

This cathedral complex has everything a visitor could wish for; a striking cathedral church that’s still in use, and an older cathedral now dedicated to cultural pursuits, an impressive diocesan museum with marvellous religious art work and sculptures. The bell tower is also worth a visit for the views it affords of the city.

This was my forth trip to Italy and I finally made it into this church. The outside structure captured my attention and I felt the need to go visit. There was no cost to visit, it is a quiet church but very welcoming. I know you can visit many however each one has it's own story. Beautiful church in a beautiful city.

We found the museum somewhat boring. Maybe if you are into religion it may be of interest to you. The were a few special artifacts but this was not really our scene.

The title of this review was not chosen by chance, as in this little but well-kept and well-organized museum there are the jewels once wore by the Holy Face in the Cathedral. If you happen to be visiting Lucca with your whole family, I recommend you the family ticket, which allows you to visit both the Museum and the Cathedral.

If you (like me) find large museums rather dulling to the senses after the first half hour or so, you'll appreciate this beautifully organized small museum that illumines so many aspects of the history of Lucca. The building itself is a fascinating example of modernism, the collection on display is stunningly lit and presented, and every item is a masterpiece of its kind.

After finishing the Duomo tour with our tour group we returned to this museum to supplement the history we heard on our tour. There are rooms on multiple levels to view artifacts and an elevator is also available. The audio guide was really beneficial to the displays and worth the very small euro price. If you visit the Duomo be sure to include time to see this very worthwhile and beautiful museum.
