Torture Museum of Lucca: The exhibit The exhibit continues to achieve resounding success thanks to its strong and clear historical value and includes unique instruments. An exhibit which doesn’t need to emphasize its message through bloody representation and horror scenes: instruments speaks for themselves. It’s an unique exhibit because of its interpretation and its strong effect on visitors. The horror aroused in our visitors viewing the instruments allows us to make them our allies against torture. The exhibit wants to be a great testimony and doesn’t linger in the past but becomes a living matter. It lays bare the worst side of human nature: every man hides and holds back a potential butcher. If displayed with great accuracy and propriety, the exhibit helps to fuel a sympathetic awareness on the matter, and to respect the opinions and beliefs different from ours, that is the elementary foundation of modern democracy.

This isn't good for children but it was an eye opener and very interesting. We found similar museums in Florene, Pisa and Sien?

Whilst the museum was fascinating in a very macabre horrifying way that leaves you wondering how anyone could come up with these things, I do think it was very over priced for what it is. It’s quite small.

I went in with my friend as we were very intrigued by what was inside the museum. The place was very dimly lit and it was difficult to read some of the descriptions of the items, some item descriptions needed better lighting. Overall we found...More

Don’t know if I’d use the word ‘enjoy’ to describe this but I did find it extremely fascinating and mind blowing. Humans can be so cruel. It’s expensive to go in €10 and we were in and out in 30 minutes and I read everything.

A chilling insight into the history of tortures. The sight of the children's "punishments" was really creepy. I would have liked a bit more history of some of the actual items, but there is good descriptions of how they were used and for what type...More

The museum is quite small, and though the torture instrument it shows are interesting, I thought the price was a bit high to see only four or five small rooms. Fun exhibit but a bit of a tourist trap.More

Hello, we are pleased that you found the exhibition interesting; the more than one hundred instruments and machines that you saw are all authentic, they go from the Middle Ages to the 18th century, found all over Europe. We are sorry you didn't fully appreciate...More

We kept driving past the posters advertising this museum whilst on a visit to Lucca and just had to stop by. I think the best time to visit would be if you’re in Lucca for the comics and games convention. It’s a good respite from...More

A surprising museum amidst a city of 100+ churches :) small but interesting collection. Does not accept credit cards so make sure you have cash on you.

This museum is quite small and displays many original torture instruments along with a description of how they were (and are still) wielded. I wouldn't describe the museum as a pleasant experience (especially if you have a good imagination), like many things that should be...More
