Very helpful
Aug. 2019
Our driver dropped us off at the Tourist Information City of Lucca. We went inside and got maps and other information on Lucca to plan out our day. The staff were very helpful. If possible, I would make this your first stop to get oriented before going out to explore Lucca.

LUCCA EXPERIENCE - The Great Film of Lucca
Aug. 2019 • Couples
Newly released, this is a MUST SEE at the beginning of your visit to the ancient city of Lucca. At 6 euros it is well worth watching this beautifully created film on the story of Lucca through its birth until present day, giving you an overview of Lucca's history in the cool of the Mura Urbane.

Sylvia is an amazing guide
Nov. 2018 • Solo
I'm on a low budget and never spend money on guided tours anywhere, but Sylvia is completely worth the 13E. Admission to the cathedrale (3E) is included, and you receive 2-2 1/2 hours of information that will change how you experience the town.

In the low season (November to spring?) tours are offered every Saturday at 11 AM. Both Wednesdays and Saturdays during the rest of the year. Buy tickets beforehand at tourist office, meet at Piazza San Michele.

Due to iffy weather, I was the only one who showed--and yet she dropped what she was doing and was unsparing with her time. Completely present throughout the tour, customizes it according to your interests, genuinely caring, knows her art history. She shares her love of her town with you. I used to be a guide, and Sylvia knows her craft.

As for the rest of the visitor center (I didn't see a place to just review the tours)--it sells the Grapevine magazine (helpful English-language, expat-produced guide to local goings-on), has a bathroom and nice chairs (helpful while walking the town), staff can tell you all about the weekly/monthly markets (antiques, farmers' market) that add color to Luccan life, and there's a cappucino machine out front. The large printed maps they distribute for free are a must.

Hadn't got a clue!
Apr. 2018 • Couples
We visited more than once to ask for advice and information whilst in Lucca. They were pretty clueless.

They were pleasant enough, but had little working knowledge of the city and resorted to internet sites I'd already found myself. They need training and better information knowledge.

Excellent tour of Lucca
Jun. 2017 • Couples
We bought the tickets for the walking tour from the tourist information office costing 10 euros per person.

There were about 20 persons in our group and since all understood English, our local guide, Victoria, did not have to do the commentary in two languages.

Victoria started the tour at 2.00 pm outside the tourist information centre at Piazzale Verdi. She gave us the history of Lucca and took us walking along the streets stopping to point out famous monuments and plenty of churches. She regaled us with stories and anecdotes of the sights and ended the two-hour tour outside the Cathedral of San Martino where she described the facade and decorations.
At the end of the tour Victoria asked whether any in the group would be interested to visit the Cathedral. A few of us agreed and she kindly arranged for us to pay a reduced group ticket price. She even volunteered to take us inside the Cathedral and explained the interior, the artwork and the significance of the wooden crucifix.

We enjoyed this excellent tour and would not hesitate to highly recommend it.
