Top ways to experience Piazza Santa Trinita
The area
Neighbourhood: Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.

Small ‘plaza’ where several streets with vehicular traffic converge. There is a tall stone column in the center. A church with the same name as the plaza is worth a short visit. The Ferragamo Museum is off to one side of the square and an old palazzo faces the square.

This is a triangular shaped public square located just outside Basilica di Santa Trinita in the historic city centre of Florence. What makes it interesting is the blend of architecture you see in the Romanesque Church with Mannerist facade, Gothic style Palazzo Spini Feron and High Renaissance style Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni buildings all surrounding a Roman era Column topped with a Baroque statue of Justice. It is a worth place to spend a few minutes enjoying the various architectural periods on display.

This Piazza comes to life at night on the weekends. We walked through it and there were lots of people there hanging out at the restaurants, bars, shops and the square itself. The architecture surrounding it is beautiful.

This is a hive of activity at night, musicians performing for donations enthral the crowds sitting on the steps of the surrounding buildings which echo the sound magnificently.

Lots of tourists around the area. Is ok to walk around and the bridges are very very nice. But there isn't anything outstanding in the piazza. A lot of nice alleys / streets nearby tho

Piazza Santa Trinita is a small triangular shaped square situated just north of the lovely Ponte Santa Trinita bridge. While not a highly featured area of the Historic Centre of Florence, there are a few interesting things to see here.

This is the location of Church of Santa Trinita, where you can find the important Ghirladaio frescos. Palazzo Spini-Ferroni, which famously houses the Salvatore Ferragamo museum and headquaters, is also located at Piazza Santa Trinita.

Another interesting thing to see here is the Roman Column of Justice which rests in the centre of piazza. The 11 meter oriental granite column given to Cosimo I by Pope Pius IV in the 1560s and erected at this location. The figure of Justice was later created and added atop the column in 1581. It is a nice monument and landmark to view when making your way to and spending time in this area of the city.

In the end, those with short stays in Florence, may not have time to spend in this area of the city. However, if you are on a longer stay or if you are a repeat visit to the city, this might be a new area to explore and check out.

This is a lovely little square with a church, a column and a way leading to a bridge bearing the same name.

Piazza Santa Trinita should not be regarded as a piazza as there were continuous traffic flows around the area. There were several old structures and a huge Column of Justice on the spot that made it famous. You would pass through this area after visiting the Arno River.

We took this way back to our hotel on Piazza Santa Maria Novella from the river and found a great Christmas light display up and down the street.

There were shops and resturants along the streets in both directions.
