A very nice piazza with a beautiful church

Probably there are better piazzas in Florence but this one is worth visiting. The Church is amazing and there is a street market with food and drinks. Very nice stroll

The church is the magic point of this nice square, and since the last years there are too much tourists in Florence; better to visit in winter; The church Maria Novella has still her original facade with geometric and multicolours marbles in roman and renaissance style; Do not miss to see the pulpit where Galilée was denounced for his declaration... It's a very nice square, the dominating church is lovely to look at. Unfortunately the tourists and touts spoil the ambience.

We had the pleasure of spending the day here. What an amazing place to be. It's not hard to see why it is such an inspirational place for the lovers of art.

We visited this Piazza on most days of our stay! There was a French market, and we popped in to buy croissants, apple turnovers, soap and even a bottle of white wine! There was a great Irish pub, the Fiddlers Elbow, which helped us kill 20 minutes - and even a Burger King. We even had to go back twice... More

The Piazza di Santa Maria Novella with its beautiful church building is surrounded by several hotels and restaurants overlooking the square from where you have a beautiful view of the church. A lovely place to relax among the flowers. Go early morning as it becomes hot in the afternoon. The area is clean and safe.

Spent a quiet morning with few tourists in this nice Piazza. The church is beautiful. Also I think that on Sundays you can visit it for free ( I am not sure though ).

The Piazza de SMN offers great views of the church as well as some nice shops and both indoor and outdoor dining from basic to fancy. One of our favorite outdoor venues in Florence - almost as good as the area surrounding the Duomo.

This piazza has been changed radically in the 5 years since our last visit. The area has been revamped with new paving, flower beds, lawns and seating. Working through the piazza in the early evening is now a good experience, listing to the street musicians and people sitting outside bars and restaurants. During our previous visit it was place you... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
