The Arno River is great for traveling through the province. The Arno River is surrounded by mountains; it provides a view for the Florentines living nearby. Uncontrollable Arno River floods are disastrous for Florence. Treasured Italian art and buildings can be destroyed. You can get a good look at the Arno while crossing one of the city bridges like the famous Ponte Vecchio. If you want to capture the Arno and Ponte Vecchio in the same photo, these can be taken from the roadsides that flank both sides of the river or from sister bridges like Ponte Santa Trinta (northwest) or Ponte alle Grazie (southeast)Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 April 2024

We were on a long stroll through the city aiming to catch some of the lovely architecture. We crossed the river at the busy Ponte Vecchio and then walked down the side of the river, past the German church on our way to climb up to the Piazzale Michelangelo. The river itself isn't much to look at and the walkways are quite high above the banks of the river. We didn't attempt to get down to the waters edge. It didn't look that attractive - nor that clean on the day we were there...Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 31 August 2024

It is beautiful to walk along its banks to explore one of the most picturesque and evocative parts of the historic center of Florence, but also the countryside that surrounds this splendid city and some nearby villages and hamlets. Some areas of the riverfront are accessible by bicycle. There are numerous parks and green areas near the river, we visited several during our walk towards Bagno a Ripoli. I recommend admiring it even at night: there is something truly poetic and touching in seeing the lights of the historic center reflected in these black waters.

Walking along the Arno River in Florence is a joy! It's a great way to decompress from the hustle and bustle of the historic tourist areas. During our recent visit to this beautiful Renaissance city, we enjoyed walking along the river from its edge or from above and across its bridges numerous times at different times of day and night. Get a great view of the Ponte Vecchio from the bridges further up and down the river and just watch for a few minutes. Fun to see that same view at night too! Cross over to the Oltrarno at night to enjoy a view of the Uffizi reflected in the river's flowing waters. In the evening, just enjoy the breeze coming off the water.

The Arno River divides Florence into two parts, and thanks to several bridges, you can enjoy views of it from many places.
The river has a calm, shiny surface and the houses that line the waterfront are reflected in it like a mirror, enhancing the beautiful views of the architecture of this amazing city.
The Arno River and its bridges create a particularly enchanting atmosphere in the early evening when the sun is already very low or at sunset itself. Walk around and let yourself be enchanted...

River flowing thru Florence. The bridges are good for views of it. Not accessible for the most part, but even then there wouldn't be much to see from it as there are high walls/wharfs on both sides that would block any views of the city. All you can see from the river is the bridges and loads of tourists.

Saw lots of bridges spanning Arno river. The most iconic bridge is Ponte Vecchio. Lots of people were on the bridge for various reasons. Some were there to shop for jewellery, some were on the bridge for
the first time , some were were busy taking
photos, some were there to admire the nearby bridges. A most interesting spot of the river is where one could take a beautiful photo of the reflection of Uffizi on the waters. One can get a good view of the river and the many bridges across it from Michaelangelo's square.

Like many rivers in many other cities, to have Arno River through the city is nice. Along the river, it is possible to find many shopping and eating facilities. There is traffic almost always and pedestrian way is quite narrow. So, it is difficult to have a comfortable walk.

Is it possible to walk from Pisa to Marina di Pisa along the River Arno?
Written 13 March 2018
I would like to know of pleasant walks along the Arno banks on the outskirts of the city ..please can you help ?
Written 6 January 2018
The park area to the west of the city would provide you with walks along the river. Other pavements running through the city are very narrow and difficult to walk along especially with roads right next to you.
