This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

Great views of the city and sunset from the steps of Michelangelo's favorite cathedral. Highly recommend visiting for sunset.

Catch a bus up to the Piazzale Michelangelo from train station very cheap and get a wonderful view of Florence and the surrounding area. Stop there for a coffee but drinking standing up as cheaper.

Wear comfy shoes for a bit of a trek! It's worth it for the panoramic view you get of the city. Beautiful and breathtaking. You walk through some quaint little streets with lovely boutique shops on the way making this enjoyable. I would definitely recommend. Good for burning off the gelato too!

Truly a must-do whilst in Florence. The uphill walk isn't the easiest, but the views are worth double the hike. The views were beautiful in the day, but I would recommend timing the trip with Sunset - romantic and magical.

A wonderful vantage point to see the city from. A steepish, but short walk up that is well worth it. The area is good, so its a pleasant stroll from town.

Well worth the drive up to see the view of Florence and sit for awhile in the lovely restaurant. Highlight was going for a ride in the Ferarri - it cost a lot, but heck, I was in Italy!

Simply to see one of Michelangelo's pieces of art in person is a art lover dream.you can touch it. Take pictures with it. And be amazed by the artist work.

We walked upto Piazzale Michelangelo from the Ponte Vecchio area. It was a long, uphill walk but the climb was extremely rewarding as it offered exquisite views of the lovely city of Florence with the large Duomo at its backdrop, the little bridges over the river Arno and the people lining up its streets. We were he on New Year's... More

Take a short relatively easy hike up to get a great view of the city from south of the river. The view is amazing and best of all, it's free! It can get crowded, but it's not hard to find a spot to take in the view. My wife and I went around 4 and waited for the sunset. We... More

Staying in Piazzale Michelangelo

Neighbourhood Profile
Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!
